Al Ain Zoo today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Hilton Al Ain hotel, which details that the Hotel will donate a share of its coffee shop profits to Al Ain Zoo for the coming months to support conservation efforts.
To mark the occasion, a ceremony took place today at Al Ain Zoo in the presence of H.E. Ghanim Mubarak Al Hajeri, Director General of the Zoo & Aquarium Public Institution in Al Ain;Mr. Jacques Claudel, Hilton Al AinGeneral Manager;as well as directors and department heads from the organisations.
The initiativeis in line with the joint objectives of both Al Ain Zoo and the Hilton Al Ainin the areas conservation and the environment. The collaboration also supports tourism in the area, with Al Ain Zoo being one of the most popular tourist destinations in the United Arab Emirates.
H.E. Ghanim Mubarak Al Hajericommented:
“This collaboration between Al Ain Zoo and the Al Ain HiltonHotel helps us to educate the community about the role of the Zoo and its commitment as a leader in conservation. Our programme focuses on animal management, wildlife sustainability and protection of endangered species, andalso introduces a strong incentive to supportconcerted community efforts in the UAE. Al Ain Zoo has evolved into a key player in wildlife conservation, as well as a much-admired visitor destination, contributing to Abu Dhabi Vision 2030.”
Al Ain Zoo has set-up strategic partnerships with leading zoos, conservation agencies and associations from across the world, including the World Conservation Union and Species Survival Commission, Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi, San Diego Zoo, Edinburgh Zoo, the Northern Rangelands Trust of Kenya and the Sahara Conservation Fund.
As part of the Hilton Al Ain’s ongoing sustainability initiatives, staff at the Hotel’s newly renovated Palm Court Café proposed the idea of a special fundraising campaign for their Al Ainneighbour following the refurbishment of Palm Court Café. Jacques Claudel, General Manager of the Hotelfurther explained:
“Staff at Hilton Al Ain have a strong sense of commitment and involvement within the local community, having previously partnered with Zayed Higher Organisation during the Al Ain 8th International Athletics Meeting 2014 and Make a Wish foundation. I am delighted we have now joined forces with our high profile neighbors in Al Ain to raise much-needed funds from each cup of coffee sold in our latest hotel café. We urge everyone to drop in for a coffee and help support this terrific, worthwhile cause.”
