(11 March 2014)
Delve into the depths of Arabic Folklore with Ashtar -Theatre’s acclaimed production of ’Sinbad & The Monster’

Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation (ADMAF) in partnership with Art for All welcomes internationally acclaimed Palestinian theatre company, Ashtar Theatre, for its first tour of the UAE as part of Abu Dhabi Festival 2014’s Community programme. Touring various locations across the Emirates including Fujairah, Al Ain, and Sharjah with its Arabic-language production of ‘Sinbad & The Monster’, Ashtar Theatre will delve audiences into the depths of Arabic folklore as they join Sinbad on his adventures as he learns to protect the planet from pollution.

Over the course of Abu Dhabi Festival, Ashtar Theatre will also deliver a series of theatre-in-education workshops for schools and special needs centres in Um Al Quwain, Ajman, Fujairah, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Ras Al Khaimah to nurture Arabic language capabilities, enhance Arabic literature studies and strengthen cultural identity.

H.E. Hoda I. Al Khamis-Kanoo, Founder of the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF) and the Abu Dhabi Festival: “Ashtar Theatre is a non-profit organization that offers intensive theatre training programs for local students throughout the year, equipping young Palestinians with essential skills that go beyond acting such as leadership, communication, and teamwork skills. It is this quality of youth and community development that the Abu Dhabi Festival embodies, and through support of organisations such as the Ashtar Theatre, we hope to develop and perpetuate this across the region for many years to come.”

Locations of performances open to the public of ‘Sinbad & The Monster’ include; Fujairah Cultural Centre (March 10, 7:00pm), UAE University Al Ain (March 16, 7:00pm), and the American University of Sharjah (March 18, 7:00pm).

Each year, Abu Dhabi Festival’s community programme celebrates ‘Bilad Al Khayr’ - ‘The Land of Blessings’. Through this, AMDAF continuously seek new and exciting ways of enabling people from across the diverse UAE society to unite and access arts and culture.
