(26 February 2014)

The Al Ain Traffic Section at the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police announced that it has revoked about 129 driving licenses in Al Ain after the drivers’ 24 cumulative demerit points had been reached. The section has also confiscated 473 vehicles for various traffic law violations in the month of January.

Major Salah Abdullah Al Hemairi, Chief of the Al Ain Traffic Section at the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police, said that the holders of the revoked driving licenses and those whose vehicles were confiscated had committed several violations. He also noted that most of the violations resulted from exceeding legal speed limits and stressed the need to follow traffic laws and regulations and abide by the speed limits.

Moreover, Al Hemairi emphasized Abu Dhabi Traffic Directorate’s keenness and great interest in making the roads safer and reducing all kinds of violations that lead to traffic accidents and the deaths and serious injuries they cause.

Furthermore, Al Hemairi called upon motorists to adhere to the traffic laws and the designated speed limits, and to abide by the lane rules at intersections. He also pointed out that making dangerous lane changes and turning to the left from the wrong lane at intersections are considered traffic violations that carry a fine of AED 600 and a penalty of six black points for trucks, and a fine of AED 200 and a penalty of two black points for lightweight vehicles.
