Sheikhs, diplomats and nearly 20,000 people gathered on the Abu Dhabi Corniche today to participate in the annual non-competitive event against cancer named the Terry Fox Run. They were joined by special guests - Terry’s sister and, for the first time, his niece who flew in from Canada to participate in the Run – who both commended the participation of all who supported, as well as the nearly 130 organisations and schools who registered for the event. Organisers confirmed that close to AED387,000 was raised today.
The run, held under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Sultan bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, Advisor to His Highness the President of the UAE, attracted special guests of honour such as H.E Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, his son Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, H.E Arif Lalani, Canadian Ambassador to the UAE and his diplomatic guests. Some of the highlights included performances by the Abu Dhabi Police Band, fitness instructors giving Zumba and warm up routines and the first-ever performance of a rap song written especially in Terry’s honour by a local Abu Dhabi student.
