The American College of Healthcare Executives Middle East & North Africa (ACHE MENA) Group recently conducted a leadership workshop that focused on the importance of negotiation. Organized and sponsored by Corniche Hospital, the workshop had 30 healthcare professionals from around the region including UAE, KSA, Qatar and Kuwait attend the two day event in Dubai on the 25th and 26th of January, 2014.
The ACHE MENA Group is an active arm of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), a leading international professional society with more than 40,000 members. As part of its objectives, ACHE MENA Group enhances healthcare professional skills and expertise by regularly holding interactive workshops and seminars for its members. This seminar was the second annual for the ACHE MENA Group.
The workshop entitled “Negotiating Successful Agreement” which focused on the importance of negotiating was led by Chris Laubach, President of the Center for Management Programs, an American consulting firm that provides educational programs to healthcare industry organizations. An educator and consultant for more than 20 years, Laubach is a seasoned speaker on negotiation and has also written numerous publications, including the book Mastering the Negotiation Process: A Practical Guide for the Healthcare Executive.
“Corniche Hospital is extremely happy to have hosted the ACHE workshop and having an expert like Chris Laubach lead an engaging seminar thus enabling health care professionals to gain from his wealth of knowledge. The workshop provided a valuable education platform for all participants to gain detailed insight into the negotiation process and the approach to reach favorable agreements,” said Dr. Mariam Al Mazrouei, Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operations Officer, Corniche Hospital and President Elect of ACHE MENA. Dr. Mazrouei added that Corniche Hospital, a strong supporter of the ACHE MENA Group has sponsored and organized similar workshops in the past as well.
Commenting on the workshop’s subject, Ron Lavater, an Executive Consultant with Johns Hopkins Medicine International and President of the ACHE MENA Group said, “In today’s competitive healthcare environment, it is important for health care leaders to have a superior level of negotiating skill as they are constantly negotiating with insurance companies, suppliers and employees, for example. While some executives are "born" negotiators with great communication skills, most of us benefit from the knowledge of the process and techniques of negotiation. Chris Laubach led a great seminar and the feedback from the attendees was very positive,” he noted.
Pleased with the event’s success, the visiting speaker Chris Laubach added, “During the program, members of ACHE’s Middle East - North Africa Chapter were able to further enhance their own abilities through classroom discussions and role-playing exercises. Having conducted nearly 650 seminars on this topic, I was greatly impressed with the caliber of the member’s knowledge and ability to assimilate the program’s key points into their own personal styles of negotiation.”
Corniche Hospital is owned and operated by Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), which is responsible for the curative activities of all the public hospitals and clinics of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
