Tawam Hospital, in affiliation with Johns Hopkins Medicine and part of the SEHA healthcare system, today announced the opening of its renovated Medical 2 Ward in its ongoing modernization efforts for safer, patient-family centered care.
The renovation of the ward is part of Tawam Hospital’s investment program which includes annual renovation of hospital wards and clinics. Located on the second floor, major improvements have been carried out on each of the 38 patient rooms in Medical 2 Ward, as well as enhancing all associated clinical services and introducing telemetry connectivity to monitor cardiac patients. Smart features have been installed to allow patients to communicate with loved ones outside the hospital via video-feed. Two isolation rooms have also been added to the ward as well as one specially designed room reserved for bariatric patient care.
Eng. Hamad Al Ahbabi, Deputy Chief Operation Officer said: “At Tawam Hospital, we endeavor to make our patients’ stay as comfortable and convenient as possible, considering the time they spend away from home and family, often in physical discomfort. The renovated ward has been designed to make keeping in touch with family and friends much easier for our patients, as well as introducing new features and technologies to allow better workflow for the clinical team which in turn will enhance patient care.”
All medical equipment for the unit is equipped with the latest technology to meet treatment requirements. The ward now has wireless connectivity for cardiac telemetry devices, providing continued monitoring for cardiac patients through dedicated workstations. Additionally, rooms are equipped with smart options that allow patients and their companions to use web services for video communication with relatives outside the hospital.
Eng. Al Ahbabi added: “In renovating the ward, we carefully selected a modern design to provide an interesting and pleasant environment with unique interiors and entertainment facilities. We wanted to create greater comfort in surroundings which respect our patients’ privacy, with each room designed for single occupancy.”
Eng. Eissa Al Kuwaiti, Project Manager, said: “I would like to thank the Tawam Facilities Division team who worked with me on this project and has ensured that all work was carried out to the latest international healthcare standards. The team has done a great job and I know that our nursing staff and our patients will see and appreciate the improvements.”
Mohammed Al Jaberi, Acting Facility Director said: “For patients who require medical isolation, we have designed two isolation rooms. Additionally, the newly-renovated ward has two rooms that are equipped with all required services for dialysis treatment. The mattresses for the beds were also carefully chosen to avoid pressure and bed sores for our long stay patients.”
Tawam Hospital is part of the SEHA Health System and is owned and operated by SEHA which is responsible for the curative activities of all the public hospitals and clinics in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
