(17 January 2014)

As part of its community-based initiatives, a delegation from the Media and Public Relations Section at the Directorate General of Resources and Support Services visited the deaf section at the Abu Dhabi Center for Care and Rehabilitation for People with Special Needs.

The visit falls within the communication and interaction methodology adopted by the Naturalization, Residency and Ports Affairs Sector to mark the Arab Child’s Day. The delegation was headed by Lieutenant Colonel Taleb Abdul Kareem Al Mahmoud, Chief of the Section. The delegation was greeted upon arrival by Wadad Al Mubarak, Chief of the Activities Section and Amoun Al Tayyeb, Medical Specialist at the Hearing Impaired Section at the center.

Lieutenant Colonel Taleb Abdul Kareem Al Mahmoud and the accompanying delegation were briefed on the tasks and duties carried out by the center to rehabilitate and train people with disabilities. The center offers a range of modern specialized rehabilitation services for the different categories of special needs, which include the deaf, people with intellectual disabilities, the blind, the physically handicapped as well as vocational training. The rehabilitation process includes academic education and physical therapy in accordance with internationally certified scientific methods and programs approved by the center.

The delegation toured the center’s facilities, notably the speech therapy class, the English language class, the computer lab, the science lab, the handicrafts workshop, the security training hall, and the drawing workshop, as well as the library, which was established for both employees and children with different categories of special needs. The delegation also toured the music workshop where people with special needs are taught music through sign language, and highly applauded a child performing a music piece.

Commemorative gifts were distributed to the deaf, which brought joy to their hearts.

At the end of the visit, Lieutenant Colonel Taleb Abdul Kareem signed the guestbook. He conveyed the greetings of the police leadership, and thanked the center’s officials for the warm reception, wishing them continuous success.

In conclusion, Lieutenant Colonel Taleb Abdul Kareem reiterated the Media and Public Relations Section’s commitment to enhance communication with the center, in pursuance of the directive of the higher leadership, which pays particular attention to this category. “The country’s leadership is keen to organize such visits not only during national or social events, but also as part of a social humanitarian program throughout the year, given the considerable positive psychological and social impact on people with special needs,” he said.

At the end of the visit, the delegation presented the Naturalization, Residency and Ports’ shield to the center’s administration.
