Abu Dhabi will be hosting the annual Terry Fox Run for the 19th consecutive year on the Abu Dhabi Corniche on Friday, February 21, 2014 under the patronage of Sheikh Sultan bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, Advisor to His Highness the President of the UAE.
Since the first Terry Fox Run was held in the UAE in 1995, the event has managed to raise around AED15 million, and has financed 42 cancer research projects. The projects are conducted at different universities, hospitals and institutes across the UAE in cooperation with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the UAE University in Al Ain. This year at the event, the Committee will be celebrating the completion of the four projects that have been funded over the past three years (valued at AED1,189,000) by presenting the researchers with a final chequeof AED285,000.
The Run - which is one of the largest single-day fund raising events for cancer research in the world - is set to bring thousands of people together for a fun event to support local and innovative cancer research. Each year, Abu Dhabi supporters are united in their efforts to raise funds for a disease that affects the entire community.
In keeping with Terry’s own request that all funds raised be directed to research, the volunteer organizing committee has no budget with which to purchase goods and services to host the Run. They are grateful to the many companies and individuals who donate funds, goods, services and time to ensure that every dirham raised goes to fund innovative cancer research in the UAE.
This non- competitive Run is open to everyone - you can walk, run, skateboard roller blade any desired length of the route; however, cycling will not be permitted due to safety precautions.
The Run will kick off from the Abu Dhabi Corniche (the Fanzone) to the Corniche Hospital, and back.
