Corniche Hospital has successfully earned the Joint Commission International (JCI) reaccreditation endorsing the quality of health care services it offers. The JCI is a leading US health care accreditor which creates hospital environments with a focus on quality, safety and continuous improvement.
The JCI’s on-site evaluation that took place in Corniche Hospital during the last week of November 2013 was conducted by JCI health care experts and surveyors who commended the hospital for its dedication to quality and patient safety and made the recommendation for the Hospital to be re-accredited. Corniche Hospital had first successfully passed the coveted JCI accreditation process in 2007 and was re-accredited in 2010 before achieving its 2nd re-accreditation in December 2013.
“The accreditation to the JCI organization demonstrates Corniche Hospital’s continuous, systematic improvements in our performance and the outcomes of patient care. The exercise gave us an opportunity to showcase our hospital and the outstanding service and safe care we provide to all our patients each and every day. We are pleased that we have been successful in meeting the JCI standards that measure up to top American and European hospitals in terms of patient care and safety,” said Ron Lavater, the Chief Executive Officer of Corniche Hospital at the time of the survey.
JCI sets high standards for patient care and safety which are focused on access to care, assessment of patients, infection control, patient and family rights, and education besides addressing facility management and safety, quality improvement, organizational leadership, and management of information.
The JCI surveyors who spent 4 days monitoring patient care systems, interviewing staff and inspecting the hospital’s processes and noted that each member of Corniche Hospital left no stone unturned to ensure that every aspect of quality of care and patient safety was met. “We are extremely proud to have accomplished this goal confirming our continued commitment to quality and safety in health care,” said Jane Kelly, Corniche Hospital’s Quality Director.
Corniche Hospital is owned and operated by Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), which is responsible for the curative activities of all the public hospitals and clinics of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The hospital was earlier managed by Johns Hopkins Medicine International in Baltimore, USA from 2008 to 2013.
