MoF Organises e- Dirham System Meeting With Local Government Departments And Authorities

As part of its commitment to work closely with other federal and local government authorities and in line with its efforts to improve the management of financial resources and ensure sustainable development in the UAE; the Ministry of Finance (MoF), in coordination with Department of Finance – Abu Dhabi (DoF), recently held a meeting with various local government departments and authorities to showcase its e-Dirham system.

The meeting was attended by HE Younis Haji Al Khouri, Undersecretary; HE Saeed Rashid Al Yateem, Assistant Undersecretary of Resources and Budget Sector; Azza Al Suwaidi, Director of Revenue Development Department on behalf of MoF and by HE Mohammed Sultan bin Ghanoum Al Hameli, Director General and HE Kamal Khodr, Executive Director of the Government Sector Accounts, on behalf of the Department of Finance (DoF) - Abu Dhabi. Also, a number of the Ministry’s officials and DoF’s directors participated in the meeting.

As for the local government of Abu Dhabi, representatives from Abu Dhabi Systems and Information Centre (ADSIC), General Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police (ADP), Abu Dhabi City Municipality (ADM), Al Ain City Municipality, Western Region Municipality, Ministry of Presidential Affairs, Department of Transport (DOT), Department of Municipal Affairs (DMA), Department of Economic Development (DED), Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) and The General Directorate of Civil Defense Abu Dhabi (ADCD), in addition to the National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD), attended the meeting.

HE Kamal Khodr on behalf of HE Mohammed Sultan bin Ghanoum Al Hameli, Director General of DoF welcomed all participants and took the opportunity to review the mechanisms of the e-Dirham system. He highlighted the importance of the exchange of information and expertise and of keeping up with the latest global systems specialised in managing financial resources. Moreover, HE Khodr highlighted the importance of holding more meetings with various local government departments to ensure the update of government services according to best international standards.

In addition, HE Younis Haji Al Khouri thanked the representatives from the local government departments and authorities for their participation in the meeting. HE Al Khouri said: “MoF has built distinctive strategic partnerships with various local government departments in Abu Dhabi, and works closely with them to help raise the UAE’s profile on a regional and global level by applying international best practices in managing government financial affairs.”

HE Al Khouri added: “The e-Dirham system aims to support the government’s smart initiative which was launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai. Connected to other global payment networks, this integrated online payment system aims to support and enhance payment services; thus improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the government’s operations.”

Also during the meeting Azza Al Suwaidi, Director of Revenue Development Department at MoF outlined the various development stages of the e- Dirham system, the challenges that MoF faced in implementing the system and its services, and also clarified how it functions. The meeting also discussed the system’s payment and settlement services, its current and future payment channels as well as highlighting what has already been achieved within the system during from 2010 to 2013.

MoF also showcased the e-Dirham system at last week’s GCC e-Government Conference and Exhibition, reflecting its belief in the value of exchanging experience and knowledge on the development of the e-dirham system with its local and international partners.
