The Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters, represented by the Directorate of Traffic and Patrols, has praised the public’s cooperation during the UAE’s 42nd National Day Celebrations. The public facilitated the tasks of the police by abiding to traffic laws and the guidelines set by traffic officers. Drivers also helped traffic go smoothly and respected the car decoration guidelines set by the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters.

Brigadier Eng. Hussein Ahmed Al Harithi, Director of Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police, lauded the commitment of the motorists that participated in the car parade at Yas Island. “Thanks to the early and proper implementation of the traffic plan, hundreds of cars decorated in the colors of the Emirati flag were able to respect the directives of the traffic officers and participate in this occasion in a delightful atmosphere, without causing traffic accidents,” said Brigadier Al Harithi.

Brigadier Al Harithi expressed his heartfelt thanks to the entities that contributed to the success of the event through their cooperation. These entities include the Department of Transport, the Municipalities, the Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council, Saaed for Traffic Systems, and the private sector.

The Director of Traffic and Patrols Directorate also praised the police force members for the efforts they made on the roads and in the public places that hosted the celebrations in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region. “They interacted with the public with flexibility and within the limits of law to enable the public to express their joy without prejudice to traffic laws, to ensure their safety and safeguard public property,” added Brigadier Al Harithi.

However, Brigadier Al Harithi stressed that a number of motorists violated traffic laws and regulations during the UAE 42nd National Day celebrations. They committed some serious offences and defied the ‘Spirit of the Union’ by running red lights and tinting their windows. Some of the other traffic violations committed include attaching noise-making accessories and devices, modifying vehicles with illegal additions, exceeding legal speed limits, blocking traffic and spraying passers-by. “Such offences result in serious traffic accidents causing deaths and serious injuries,” added Al Harithi.

Brigadier Al Harithi noted that the most notable traffic violations committed during the 42nd National Day celebrations in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region, during the period ranging from December 1st to December 3rd, include 409 offences for driving in a way that endangers civilians, 27 offences for running red lights, 430 offences for driving vehicles that are creating disturbing noises, 41 offences for driving against traffic, as well as other violations.

As a result, Al Harithi indicated that the directorate will implement a zero tolerance policy and penalize violators who were caught during the celebrations. Their vehicles will be confiscated for one month and they will face a Dhs 2000 fine. The violators who defied the guidelines set by the directorate will also receive 12 black points. “The violators caught on the radars are currently being identified,” said Al Harithi.

It is worth mentioning that the Directorate of Traffic and Patrols in Abu Dhabi Police implemented a comprehensive plan to maintain safety during the UAE’s 42nd National Day celebrations in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region. Traffic patrols were intensified on all internal and external roads in order to catch the violators. The plan also included monitoring the roads via surveillance cameras that were deployed to record and photograph violations. A traffic plan meant to facilitate the movement of ambulances and rescue teams, along with an evacuation plan, were also developed.

The traffic safety plan included car decorating guidelines and aimed to raise the public’s awareness regarding the dangers of reckless driving. The plan also warned against disrupting traffic and blocking roads, using sprays, exiting vehicles on public roads, obscuring vehicle plate numbers, performing stunts, and warned against other activities that may create chaos, disturb and inconvenience others on the road. The plan also warned against any noise-making accessories and devices, and warned against exceeding the permitted number of passengers.
