The Majlis Collection was launched yesterday at AVENUE AT ETIHAD TOWERS – Abu Dhabi’s first standalone luxury shopping destination. This marks the ninth exhibition to be held at the destination, reflecting its role as a centre for both traditional and applied arts in Abu Dhabi, with the exhibition to be available until 12th December 2013.
Set to feature the resplendent work of numerous international artists, the Majlis Collection will also showcase pieces of the renowned Emirati artist Abdelqader Al Rais. Al Rais’ undisputed talent has won him the National Award of Excellence in the Arts and the 2006 Emirates Appreciation Award, among others. With a unique style in contemporary Arab-Islamic art, Al Rais is considered to be one of the most influential artists of his generation in the Gulf and the Arab World, with his work displayed in government departments, museums and private collections worldwide.
Commenting on the exhibition, Al Rais said: “I have always been inspired by Arabian architecture, and Abu Dhabi has much to offer in this realm as it continues to grow as a center for art and creativity. As such, I am thrilled for the opportunity to share my inspiration – through my art – here in the UAE Capital at AVENUE AT ETIHAD TOWERS.”
Richard Foulds, Head of Property Management at Etihad Towers, commented: “We are honoured to host the impressive pieces of the Majlis Collection, particularly with the growing thirst for Islamic and Arabian art in the UAE Capital. We look forward to welcoming visitors to AVENUE AT ETIHAD TOWERS to witness the exquisite pieces first-hand, from Abdelqader Al Rais’ stunning artworks to those of the international artists that were carefully handpicked by the Majlis Collection.”
Al Rais’ characteristic style combines calligraphy, light elements, bright colours and polished style. His work celebrates the local culture and natural heritage of the UAE. Dubai-based The Majlis Collection was founded by Alison Collins in 1989. It aims to showcase UAE artists internationally and to support them in their exploration and interpretation of the Middle East in their work.
The Majlis Collection will be on display daily until 12th December 2013 at AVENUE AT ETIHAD TOWERS, which is open from 10am to 10pm from Saturday through Thursday, and from 3pm to 11pm on Friday.
