Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority has officially launched a new book as part of the third edition of its Emirati Expressions series, Emirati Expressions: Realised. The book entitled ‘Emirati Expressions: Realised’ documents the artistic vision of this year’s six Emirati’s artists and their sustained artistic visions over the course of their careers.

HE Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan commented: “Contemporary arts have become a key means of expression in the community, and we are doing our part in maintaining and documenting these expressions because they represent memories of space and time, which are working to preserve and deliver to our future generations. We are keen on supporting Emirati artists and providing them with the right context to showcase their artwork as we believe that art reflects the status of society in one way or another, and it is through it that we can keep up with societal change.”

The ‘Emirati Expressions: Realised’ book provides an in-depth analysis of this year’s artists - Abdullah Al Saadi, Ebtisam Abdulaziz, Layla Juma, Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Mohammed Ahmed Ibrahim and Mohammed Kazem. The book also offers a comprehensive insight into the history of art in the UAE as well as the previous works and emergence of these artists. It also illustrates works by each artist from the beginning of their careers to show the concepts that they have been experimenting with. This section is followed by images from the current exhibition and the commissions themselves. Sections of the book include a selection of archival material that documents the path of these artists alongside the growth of the UAE art scene. An original poem by Mohamed Al Mazroeui is also included; titled “Hamlet Complex” in both editions, the English and Arabic.

Emirati Expressions is a curatorial initiative that celebrates the central role Emirati artists play. The current Emirati Expressions: Realised exhibition runs until 18 January 2014 and showcases newly commissioned artworks of six established Emirati artists, along with a diverse public programme featuring artists from the wider Emirati art community.
