The signing ceremony took place on Sunday, 24 November 2013, at Khalifa International Bowling Centre, Zayed Sports City in Abu Dhabi, in the presence of Mohammed Khalifa Al Qubaisi, Member of Abu Dhabi Sports Council, EBF President, and former world bowling champion, Rashed Saud Al Shamsi, Chairman of Borouge’s Marketing & Sales Company, Abdulaziz Alhajri, CEO of Abu Dhabi Polymers Company (Borouge), Salah Saleh Al Jaeedi, Secretary General of EBF and other senior management representatives.
Addressing the media after signing the partnership agreement, Al Qubaisi pointed out that Borouge’s decision to become the official partner for the EBF was inspired by its determination to develop bowling in the UAE. As part of that commitment, Borouge will support UAE bowling, the national teams and their development to help them secure high results and win medals through their participations at international events.
Al Jaeedi noted that the Abu Dhabi Sports Council is working on boosting the capabilities and the skills of the national team for the Bowling Mondial for men in 2014. The Council has devised a clear strategy to prepare the national team, driven by the government support as well as the supervision of the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare and the sports councils.
“It is fitting to remember the Bowling Mondial that was held in 1999 in this very hall with stupendous success,” said Al Jaeedi. “The sponsorship of bowling by a company of stature such as Borouge will go a long way in supporting the plans of EBF to develop this game and bring it on par with international standards. We thank Borouge for this sponsorship and its commitment to the game. We also reiterate our determination to take this game to new heights and make it a matter of pride to sponsor and patronise bowling in the UAE.”
Rashed Saud Al Shamsi thanked the federation for granting Borouge the opportunity to be an official partner, which reflects the firm commitment of the Company and its CSR programmes towards UAE society.
“We are strongly committed to developing the national sport in the UAE and we thank EBF for their trust in our resolve to elevate bowling in the country. We hope this partnership will also help in enhancing the preparations of the UAE to host the Bowling Mondial for Men in 2014 and Bowling Mondial for Women in 2015,” added Alhajri.
Bowling fans in the UAE have lauded support of Borouge to bowling which indicates that this game is attracting the attention of the business sector, according to the Secretary-General, Emirates Bowling Federation who hailed Borouge’s support not only to Bowling but to other national sports like football. The agreement’s duration is for three years, beginning in 2013 and ending in 2016.
