The Twister Duo aerobatic team of Peter Wells and Guy Westgate will perform two unique aerial displays at the 10th edition of the Al Ain Aerobatic Show from November 30-December 2 at Al Ain International Airport.
The 42nd National Day weekend celebrations in the Oasis City will see the Duo choreograph an aerial ballet to show off their aircraft the best they can in daytime enhanced with smoke, and in the evening trail sparks and smoke, both finishing with a heart in the sky.
Huawei – a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider - is sponsoring the Twister team for the duration of the Al Ain Aerobatic Airshow 2013. Named the Huawei Twister Duo, the sponsor will outfit the team in Huawei branded t-shirts and the pilots in branded flying suits. Huawei is also a main show sponsor.
“The Twister Duo was a huge attraction the last time they performed in Al Ain in 2010,” said Sultan Al Muhairi, General Co-ordinator for Al Ain Aerobatic Show 2013. “The precision flying squad return for their second breathtaking performance in Al Ain and is part of a full display lineup of teams from all over the world.”
Ace pilots Wells and Westgate will put on the aerial display with their single-seat Silence Twister lightweight, German-made aircraft. The SA1100 Silence Twister is a precision aircraft which uses the latest racing car technology. The Duo perform a full daytime show and then a nighttime show with pyros. They hope to enthrall visitors with their calculated and well-rehearsed formation loops, rolls, flicks, and gravity-defying zoom climbs leaving visitors breathless.
“Flying formation requires very fast changes in speed to catch up or slow down during the display. So this means lots of power and lots of braking. We have neither, so our most difficult job is just staying close together and rejoining after splitting. Both require huge changes in power setting by both aircraft and lots of communication during the display,” explained Wells.
“Al Ain is a uniquely beautiful venue and is a very exciting show to be part of. The whole team can’t wait to get there,” he added.
In addition to being a team sponsor, Huawei will be hosting several in-stadium activities at the Huawei VIP Chalet and Huawei Stand, including opportunities for photography, autographs and a personal ‘meet and greet’ with the pilots on all show days. Visitors will also be able to experience Huawei’s latest consumer devices including the widely popular Ascend P6 smartphone - the world’s slimmest premium smartphone.
“We are very pleased to have the opportunity to be sponsors of the prestigious Al Ain Aerobatic Show, and it’s our honour and privilege to be a part of the UAE National Day celebrations through this event,” said M Peng, General Manager, Huawei ME Device BG.
“The show provides us with the ideal platform to demonstrate our commitment to supporting local initiatives, aligned with our CSR philosophy of giving back to the local community and supporting sports activities around the region. Huawei aims to establish itself as a global customer-centric brand and our sponsorship of the Twister Aerobatic Team is in line with Huawei Device’s new global strategy to build brand awareness and extend its reach among its consumer base through advertising and sponsorship opportunities across sporting events.”
A full on-ground extravaganza also awaits families at the show with several attractions including a giant swing, bouncy castle, hot air balloon ride, mobile wave, gyroscope, Cultural Village and a family park from where people can watch the aerobatic display.
