UAE Stresses Support To Develop New Child Protection Strategies
(24 November 2013)

The United Arab Emirates, represented by the Higher Committee for Child Protection at the Ministry of Interior, stressed its support to the recommendations of the Virtual Global Task Force (VGT) to develop new strategies for child protection against risks.

The VGT had recently discussed in a meeting, held in Wellington, New Zealand, the development of new strategies to protect children across the globe against abuse, and find ways to allow law enforcement agencies to improve identification and locating techniques of children who suffered sexual abuse, and protect them.

The meeting resulted in many recommendations related to child protection. The main recommendation urged all countries to use tools compatible with the open data protocols when managing child abuse items that were seized or when receiving information on such items. The recommendation also urged countries to establish national centers to manage such items on a victim-centered basis.

In his statement on the occasion of the meeting, Major General Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Chairman of the Higher Committee for Child Protection, and UAE representative at the VGT board of directors, said: “The Ministry of Interior, represented by the Higher Committee for Child Protection, is very keen to integrate all efforts that improve child protection, following the instructions of the higher leadership and reflecting the interest of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior in making the United Arab Emirate a civilization hub and a role model in the region for child protection and security.”

“Through its membership at the VGT, the UAE is committed to empower the international cooperation as an enabler for protection and prevention. The UAE is also totally committed to realize the objectives of the VGT on social security and safety and spreading awareness to fight all challenges especially regarding child protection,” he added.

Major General Al Nuaimialso said: “The Ministry of Interior has worked, in cooperation of all ministries and concerned authorities, federally and locally, to achieve the goals and visions of our leadership within the scope of the Higher Committee for Child Protection, to fully commit to the child protection in the UAE, monitor and follow those who represent any danger against children and make more efforts to raise awareness in the community on all child protection issues.”

Secretary General said that the effort of the UAE on child protection has placed the country in an advanced position among the world. He also praised the cooperation of the concerned entities in raising awareness among community members to efficiently deal with challenges against family and child protection.

Through its membership at the VGT, the United Arab Emirates, represented by the Higher Committee for Child Protection at the Ministry of Interior, is supporting the goals of the VGT, as an enabler of the necessary police technical capacity and expertise, supporting the efforts of protection of the UAE against such crimes.
The VGT was founded in 2003 to fight online child abuse. It aims to tear down child sexual abuse networks on internet and exchange and develop information to achieve the goals of child security and safety.
