With the Mubadala World Tennis Championship just a few weeks away, community activities have been building to a crescendo as the event aims to ensure a legacy for tennis in the UAE. In 2013 the Mubadala Tennis in Schools program is delivering equipment and coaching sessions to 20 local schools across the Emirateswith a focus on encouraging Emirati talent. Al Yasmina School in Abu Dhabi welcomed the scheme this week.
The program focuses on developing tennis amongst Emirati children who are given more opportunities to practice their skills than in previous years, with local coaches visiting each school a minimum of four times. At the end of the program, 20 children - one from each participating school - will be invited to display their newly acquired talents on centre court during the Mubadala World Tennis Championship.
The annual tournament will take place from 26th to 28th December 2013 at the Abu Dhabi International Tennis Complex at Zayed Sports City.
