Abu Dhabi Police Traffic Calls Upon The Public To Reduce Speeds During The Hijri New Year Holiday
(31 October 2013)

The Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate called upon all drivers to abide by traffic laws, reduce speeds, and maintain a safe distance between vehicles during the Hijri New Year holiday. Asserting that “Road Safety is Everyone’s Responsibility,” the directorate reiterates that abiding by the law maintains the safety of road users and decreases all causes of road accidents, deaths, and serious injuries.

Lt. Colonel Jamal Salem Al Ameri, Chief of Public Relations Section at the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate, stressed the importance of being alert especially when traveling or driving to a different city; he urged motorists to ensure that tires are in good condition. He highlighted the significance of driving cautiously in poor weather and fog in addition to selecting the most convenient time for traveling to a certain destination.

Al Ameri highlighted the necessity of abiding by traffic laws and driving carefully when it is raining to avoid accidents resulting from recklessness and failure to keep a safe distance from other vehicles. Maintaining a safe distance, greater than that required under normal weather conditions and stopping the car safely in case of sand or rainstorms is essential to avoiding collisions and accidents.

He underscored the importance of never exceeding speed limits under any circumstances on internal roads and highways in case of rain; he also asserted the need to drive slowly on road curves and in tunnels due to the possibility of water pools. He stated that it is a must to drive with extra caution on slippery roads due to the decreased tire friction with the road and the resulting higher potential of skidding. He reminded motorists that vehicles require a longer distance for the car to come to a stop when the roads are wet.

Al Ameri instructed all drivers to get ready for the winter season by checking the windshield wipers and tire conditions and giving priority to issues related to being safe on the road.
