Gourmet Abu Dhabi Billed As One Of The Best Global Gourmet Events By Sydney Morning Herald
(30 October 2013)

Abu Dhabi’s gastronomic lifestyle extravaganza Gourmet Abu Dhabi has been billed as one of the best ‘Big Six’ global gourmet events by Australia’s Sydney Morning Herald – the daily metro newspaper in New South Wales, Australia with a daily circulation of over a quarter of a million.

Placed amongst other leading global gourmet events including Italy, France, Singapore, the USA and South Africa, Gourmet Abu Dhabi was highlighted as a major international culinary festival in the Herald’s Traveller supplement; ranked as Australia’s leading Saturday travel section and focuses on travel stories and updates from around the globe.

Gourmet Abu Dhabi, the UAE capital’s annual culinary festival, will enter its sixth year when it runs from February 4-19, 2014. Itwill feature a star-studded cast of Michelin-star chefs and special guests, master classes, industry insights from hospitality experts, and gourmet dinners hosted by a range of the UAE capital’s top hotels and restaurants.

“This is recognition from a publication which is held in high regard by travellers throughout Australia so it’s something which has brought a big smile to our faces,” said Noura Al Dhaheri of the Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi), which presents the festival. “Over the years we have built the event’s profile in Australia by featuring masterchefs from the country and hosting its media to report on the festival happenings. It looks like our efforts are paying off. This has the additional advantage of clearly positioning Abu Dhabi as a gourmet destination in its own right with the credit going to our expanding hospitality industry which is consistently raising the bar year-on-year.”

Previous Aussie stars who have appeared at Gourmet Abu Dhabi include: Curtis Stone, George Calombaris and Frank Camorra. Gourmet Abu Dhabi 2014 will play host to a selection of world-class chefs including three-star Michelin chef Christopher Kostow from the USA;HenrikYde Anderson of Denmark; Ho Chee Boon, thechef behind popular modern Chinese restaurant chain Hakkasan as well as Russell Blaikie owner of Perth’s popular Must Winebar.

Also featuring in next year’s line-up is Amina El Shafei, who shot to fame on last season’s Masterchef Australia cookery reality show. Amina will be acting as MC throughout the event’s culinary creation stages while Chef Russell Blaikie will serve up restaurant promotions at the four-star Yas Island Rotana Abu Dhabi hotel. Chef Blaikie will also host a culinary creation stage wherehe will demonstrate his skills to an audience from February 5-8.

“Gourmet Abu Dhabi has had a long standing relationship with promoting culinary talent from Australia. We are excited to have ChefBlaikie and Amina El Shafei join our2014 line-up and look forward to seeing them in action at the various culinary events and also introducing them to Emirati cuisine,” said Ms. Al Dhaheri.

Reservations for Gourmet Abu Dhabi events, demonstrations, dinners and promotions will be available from mid-December and can be registered at www.gourmetabudhabi.ae.
