World-class flowboarders from across the globe travelled to Yas Waterworld in Abu Dhabi this weekend to take part in the 6th Annual Oakley Go Pro World Flowboarding Championships. Boasting the largest field ever in the history of the sport, it was Team UAE who beat off competition from Singapore, Spain and Chile to take third place. Team USA rode the wave of success to be crowned champions, beating off stiff competition from South Africa who took home the silver medal.
Mike Oswald, General Manager, Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi, said: “This year’s World Flowboarding Championships have been phenomenal and it’s been truly exciting to welcome world-class talents to participate on the FlowBarrel 10 at Yas Waterworld – especially since flowboarding is so new to the region. We’re honored to have hosted such an important competition and I’d like to say a huge congratulations to Team UAE, who took home the bronze medal for the region!”
Heading Team UAE, Clayton Barker, who’s originally from South Africa, but based in Abu Dhabi, placed first in the Men’s Strapless Stand-up Division, while UAE based, Max Sokolov came second in the Strapped Stand-up Division. The two Emirati nationals, Mohammed Darwish and Humaid Obaid, also both showed off fantastic talent during the championships – with Mohammed Darwish placing fourth in the Pro Bodyboard Prone division.
“It’s amazing to see local talent perform on the global stage, and we’re expecting huge achievements from both of these keen flowboarders in the future. Congratulations Team UAE!” added Oswald.
