Abu Dhabi Police Organizes An Awareness Program At Yas Marina Circuit
(22 October 2013)

The Traffic and Patrols Directorate at the Abu Dhabi Police organizes traffic awareness programs at Yas Marina Circuit that fall within the framework of the media campaign launched by the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters under the title: “The Road Has its Ethics and Speed has its Track.” The campaign is a part of the current preparations for the “The Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix,” which will be hosted at Yas Marina Circuit from the 1-3 November 2013.

Brigadier Eng. Hussein Ahmed Al Harithi, Director of Traffic and Patrols Directorate, said that they are focusing on the Abu Dhabi Police motto through the awareness campaign; the motto is: “The Road Has its Ethics and Speed has its Track.” He also praised the partnership and cooperation of the Abu Dhabi Motor Sport Management (ADMM).

Al Harithi stated that the programs include the distribution of brochures about traffic rules in Arabic, English, and Urdu. Educational patrols, exhibitions, and traffic awareness messages delivered through social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube are all included in the event as well.

He clarified that the awareness programs taking place at Yas Marina Circuit represent the strategy of the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at the Abu Dhabi Police to make roads safer and handle the negative aspects characterized by speeding and racing on highways. He underscored the dangers of not abiding by traffic rules, which may lead to serious accidents, injuries, and sometimes death.

Brigadier Eng. added that the partnership agreement includes organizing a number of events, which is currently under preparation. The aim of such programs is to empower young drivers to develop their hobbies in a practical way that stipulates safe driving and demonstrates a full understanding that car components must meet international standards for racing. This step prepares them in a way that satisfies their energetic desires and provides an environment considered convenient and safe enough for them to race.

Al Harithi stressed that the Directorate will persist through the safety strategy of the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at the Abu Dhabi Police in spreading traffic education among the youth and acquainting them with the dangers of racing and exceeding speed limits. The Directorate, as he said, will deliver awareness lectures in schools and colleges and will communicate with young people through its program to reduce traffic accidents, titled "Together" on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. This program aims to raise the standard of traffic culture. It will launch as a part of the societal initiatives, a special initiative that addresses the youth. The “Best Young Driver” initiative encourages this category of society to abide by traffic rules and regulations.

Al Harithi called on parents to advise their children not to speed while driving and never to participate in races or perform dangerous stunts for the sake of their own safety and avoiding road accidents. Al Harithi mentioned that advanced transportation vehicles, though having highly developed specifications, are unable to protect the human body from getting seriously injured upon collisions and accidents.
