Ahead of the Federal Customs Authority’s hosting of the Regional Forum on Economic Competitiveness, which has been organised in cooperation with Abu Dhabi General Directorate of Customs and will take place from the 19 to 20 November at Ritz – Carlton, Abu Dhabi, the Preparatory Committee for the event has held a meeting to develop the general plan for how to best represent the Forum and highlight the United Arab Emirates’ position as an international business hub. .
The meeting was attended by Saleh Al Shamsi, Director of Al Ain Customs Operations, Abu Bakr Al Fahim, Director of Training and Capacity Building of the General Directorate of Customs - Abu Dhabi, Amira Al Serkal, Government Communications Office Manager at the Authority, Mohammed Ibrahim Al Marzouqi, Director of HR & Financial Affairs Department at the Authority, as well as a number of Committee Preparatory members and sub-committees.
It took place at the headquarters of the Regional Office for Capacity Building (ROCB) for the Middle East and North Africa, and saw the Preparatory Committee discuss the Forum’s processes and activities in addition to a number of proposals that will potentially enhance the Forum’s image and performance.
The meeting also included the formation of executive committees derived from the Preparatory Commission for the purpose of distributing tasks and arranging the logistics. These committees will also help to ensure that the plan is executed efficiently and will oversee its implementation while meeting all deadlines.
The Regional Forum on Economic Competitiveness is considered the first of its kind in the MENA region. It aims to highlight the recommendations of regional managers on the competitive customs work in addition to providing a platform for discussing topics related to competitiveness, such as the business environment, international trade, sustainable development, the environment, human resource development, innovation and globalisation, as well as micro and macroeconomics..
Holding this Forum in the United Arab Emirates is an opportunity to present the country’s experience in this field in addition to highlighting the role of Abu Dhabi General Directorate of Customs in front of the participants.
The event will have a significant impact in enriching the customs, economic and security sectors through proposals and initiatives that benefit the UAE and its society. The forum will also be attended by an elite group of business owners, leaders and influential scholars from the UAE, GCC, and other countries from the region, as well as international organisations. Moreover, eight experienced lecturers will be present to discuss issues related to the competitiveness of economies.
