Al Noor Hospital, Tawam Hospital, Al Ain Rugby Club, Al Ain Zoo and Al Ain Mall have collaborated to bring the Breast Cancer Wave to Al Ain with an exciting time table of events designed to involve the community as they heighten breast cancer awareness. The Al Ain Breast Cancer Wave aims to provide valuable information about breast cancer and make the difference that will save lives in the community. This wave is part of Health Authority Abu Dhabi (HAAD) to raise awareness about the three most commonly occurring cancers -breast, lung, colorectal and cervical cancer themed “Live Healthy and Simply Check” which will start with Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign “Mammogram it, I always do”.
“The goal is to have a collaborative movement as opposed to independent events. We pool our resources and bring breast cancer to the forefront of the Al Ain community’s awareness,” said Stephen Mathenge, Al Noor Hospital’s Business Development Manager.
Sumaya Al Harrasi, Marketing, PR and Media Manager atTawam hospital, added “In the years past, such events in Al Ain were organised by their respective sponsors and their impact was felt in localised areas of the Emirate. These events worked well independently but fell short of expectations in creating widespread awareness. Together, we bring more and touch many more people from all walks of life this year.”
The fun-filled calendar of events kick-starts at Al Ain Rugby Club on October 11th at 3:00 pm as Al Noor Hospital launches the Al Ain Breast Cancer Wave by hosting its 4th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness event. The “active” aspect of the theme will be embodied in the ladies touch rugby and volleyball competitions in addition to other awareness raising activities. These include clown shows, face painting, an African band performance and an animal show, the display of Al Ain Zoo’s wildlife characters and a fire eating display. Along with being educated on breast cancer through information and advice, the audience will have the opportunity to win raffle gifts such as Etihad flight tickets, Al Ain Mall discount vouchers among others from sponsoring partners.
Tawam Hospital, the region’s cancer referral centre, is a committed advocate of breast cancer awareness and has been since several years. In cooperation with the other partners and a dedicated Al Ain Zoo team, it hosts a series of fun-filled community activities on Friday, 25th October, 2013. These include a Walk that begins at the hospital entrance and ends at the booths area, an African band performance during the day, an animal show with Al Ain Zoo’s wildlife characters and a raffles draw. In addition to information and advice, AL Noor hospital will provide the audience with discounts of up to 40 percent on mammograms at Al Noor Hospital.
On 8th November 2013, the first indoor walk in Al Ain’s history will commence at the mall followed by the usual array of its spectacular entertainment for all ages. All partners will have educational and information booths available for the public. The indoor walk begins at 2:00 pm and ends at 10:00 pm.
“We encourage everyone to come out and take part in the Al Ain Breast Cancer Wave.” Said Dr.Jalaa Taher, Manager, Non-Communicable Disease Department at HAAD, “Breast cancer is one of the leading killers in the global community and through awareness, early detection and the support of our community, we can stop this menace from robbing us of our mothers, daughters and sisters. . “We urge women 40 years and over to get regularly screened with mammograms, regular screening saves lives".
