ADCB Shines The Light On Breast Cancer
(8 October 2013)

Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB) held recently its first Pink Ladies Luncheon under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Hissa bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, to raise awareness of Breast Cancer in association with Anantara, Eastern Mangroves Hotel & Spa. The event was attended by Her Highness Sheikha Hissa bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan and Her Highness Sheikha Shama bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan as well as other leading women from the public and private sector. The interactive lunch featured key note speakers, a panel discussion with survivors as well as a question and answer session.

Commenting on the success of the ADCB Anantara Ladies Luncheon, Fiona Darby, Head of Sponsorships at ADCB said, “ADCB has shown its commitment to raising awareness and funds for breast cancer in many ways over the past few years. The ADCB Anantara Ladies Luncheon further reinforces the significance the bank places on this cause.”

She added “This event has been insightful, informative and supportive. We sincerely believe the guests we have hosted here today will walk away with a better understanding of how we can protect ourselves against the disease in the future and will continue to spread the message of early detection among their peers also. We would like to sincerely thank all guests for coming, showing their support and sharing their experiences”

Dr. Sawsan Abdul Salam Al Madhi, Secretary General for the Friends of Cancer Patients (FoCP) charitable society and Head of the Pink Caravan’s Medical and Awareness Committee, the biggest Cancer support charity in the Emirates, delivered the opening presentation explaining the medical aspects of the disease.

Following this, Suzanne Radford, Radio Presenter with Dubai Eye, moderated a panel discussion with three UAE based breast cancer survivors. Attendees were given the opportunity to engage with the various speakers and ask questions. For those who were not comfortable asking questions in front of all the attendees, a specific mobile phone number was made available to allow women to text in their questions.

Dr Sawsan Al Madhi, Secretary General for the Friends of Cancer Patients charitable society and Head of the Pink Caravan’s Medical and Awareness Committee, said, “The Pink Caravan’s – and by extention the Friends of Cancer Patients’ – main focus has been to provide awareness to as many people, both men and women, as possible. If detected early, breast cancer has an almost 98 percent survival rate. And this is precisely why we want to highlight the importance of early cancer detection and screenings. It is heartfelt to see the support we have received from ADCB, as it is with the help of the private and government sector that we have increased our outreach many times over, delivering our message to the various segments of the community.”

The ADCB Tree of Hope was present at the event and will be in residence at the Anantara Eastern Mangroves Hotel for the next 10 days. All money raised with the ADCB Tree of Hope over the course of the full month of October will be donated to Pink Caravan to support their operation. Along with the many leading women from various sections of society, female representatives from ADCB’s Senior Management, as well as ADCB Excellency Customers and strategic partners were in attendance.

Commenting on the partnership between ADCB and Anantara, Sharon Garrett, Area Director of Marketing & Communications said, “We are delighted ADCB collaborated with us on today’s luncheon in a joint effort to raise not only funds for Pink Caravan but also awareness. Early detection and being aware of the signs, is the secret to combatting breast cancer. We hope today’s luncheon with the valuable insights from the personal experiences of our survivors panel, will resonate with the guests. It gives us great pleasure to announce that the annual breast cancer ladies luncheon which is a highlight on our Eastern Mangroves Hotel & Spa event calendar will be held on Saturday 4th October, 2014.”

In addition to the ADCB Anantara Ladies Luncheon, ADCB has initiated a number of activities which will carry on through until November. Earlier this week, it held a Staff Wellness day at its offices. It will also be holding the ADCB Zayed Sports City 5k and 10k Pink Run on the 11th of October, all culminating with the Pink Polo event at Ghantoot on the 8th of November. Throughout this period, customers will have the opportunity to donate to Pink Caravan through ADCB ATMs throughout October.
