Al Ain Zoo recently hosted a gala dinner to honour UAE University facultyin appreciation of their contribution to education and research for the Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Centre, a landmark project that celebrates the conservation heritage of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan and one that will help chart a sustainable future for desert living.
The gala dinner was hosted by His Excellency Ghanim Mubarak Al Hajeri, Director General of Al Ain Zooand His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Abdulla Al Biyali, Vice President of UAEU overlooking the picturesque African Mixed Exhibit.
Commenting on the occasion, Ghanim Mubarak AlHajeri said:
“Al Ain Zoo enjoys strong, fruitful relationships with various government entities and educational institutions in Al Ainand Abu Dhabi, helping to shape a community by cultivating the knowledge and capabilities of its own people.Such a partnership provides an opportunity to achieve this goal via integration, with the university providing itsexpertise in education and research, and Al Ain Zoo offering a means to apply this expertise in a practical manner. Furthermore, this partnership is in line with our commitment to raise awareness about the environment, allowing the university to adapt itscurriculum to meet current market needswith training and career opportunities for students.”
The initiative reflects the zoo’s commitment to providing UAE University students with unique academic opportunities, such as in contributing to the Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Centre’s environmental and historical exhibitions. Furthermore, it proves the variety of means available to conduct scientific research while simultaneously raising awareness about wildlife conservation. Finally, in addition to offering training opportunities for UAE University’s most talented students, the collaboration exposed students to the range of career choices that can be pursued at the zoo.
Al Hajeri further added:
“Enhancing relationships with universities in the UAE and abroad is part of Al Ain Zoo’s strategy to work together to achieve common objectives, in line with wildlife and environmental conservation efforts that strengthen Al Ain’s position as a leading tourist destination. Honouring faculty from UAE University, whose education and research expertise we sought out for the Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Centre,will strengthen its position a unique global research center that will contribute to the development of our society as a whole.”
Such collaborations are part of Al Ain Zoo’s strategy to enhancerelations with universities and research institutions, both in the UAE and abroad, to achieve common objectives in the fields of wildlife, tourism, and the environment. The zoo is in the process ofdeveloping its services and facilities through expansion projects that will offer an exciting range of educational and interactive experiences, such as the wildlife safari project. In line with Abu Dhabi Vision 2030, the projects will contribute to the UAE’s economic development and position the nation at the forefront of cultural tourism at both a regional and global level.
