The Emirates Project Management Academy (EPMA), the organization created to nurture the practice of project management in the UAE,was inaugurated today in Abu Dhabi under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The inaugural event served to introduce the EPMA to government officials, companies and professionals from across the UAE. The leadership of the EPMA hosted more than 700 delegates to present the organization’s vision and project plan to establish the EPMA as the platform to promote the practice of project management across the UAE.
“Today marks an important milestone for project managers across the UAE, as we establish the definitive professional association that promotes the project management practice across educational and professional environments,” said Mohamed Al Hammadi, Chairman of the EPMA and Chief Executive Officer of the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation.
“For the EPMA, project managers have a crucial role to play in delivering the visions that the nation’s leadership have set and this is why it has been created: to provide project managers with cutting-edge tools and the skillsets and a platform for communities or practice to share lessons learned for project managers in the UAE to continue deliver world-class projects,” continued Mr. Al Hammadi.
The meeting also brought together theMembers of the Board of Trustees of the EPMA, who shared their invaluable industry-specific project management expertise with the delegates through a series of case studies.
In a panel session AqeelMadhi, EPMA Board Member and CEO of National Petroleum Construction Company and Dr. Addel Al Ameri, ADVETI, Managing Director illustrated the importance of project management.
During the conference, the leadership of the EPMA presented their plans to bring project management acrossschools and universities in the UAE. “Project management is a skill that will become part of the curriculum of future generations of UAE students,” said Mohamed Al Hammadi, Chairman of the EPMA. “UAE students will need to be ready to raise the bar and continue to deliver the growth of the nation using project management practices that help them deliver projects on time, on budget and under the highest standards of safety and quality,”
As a platform to learn from best practices in project management, the event hosted three keynote presentations from internationally acclaimed project managers: Mr. Greg Balestrero, former CEO of the Project Management Institute, Mr. Kyung Jun Kim, the project manager of the BurjKhalifa, and Mr. Ahmed Sidky, an expert on Agile development.
The success of the event was reflected in the outstanding membership requests from both corporations across the UAE and individual project managers. During the event, more than 250 corporate memberships were secured with UAE companies such as Khalifa University, Emirates Advanced Investments Group, National Petroleum Construction Company, GASCO, Strata, Injazat and the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority.
EPMA’s first conference is the first of many to come. Withan ambitious program ahead, the EPMA will now focus on delivering high quality tools and training sessions to EPMA members, as well as establishing key partnerships with local, regional and international organizations.
