(17 September 2013)

The Ministry of Finance (MoF) and the National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD) recently signed an agreement with Ajman’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry to adopt the G2 e-Dirham system to collect fees for services being provided by the Chamber. The signing took place at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi.

The agreement was signed by HE Younis Haji Al Khouri, Undersecretary of MoF and HE Salem Al Suwaidi, Director General of Ajman Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The agreement was also signed, on behalf of NBAD, by Saif Al Shehhi, General Manager of the Domestic Banking Division in the presence of each HE Saeed Rashid Al Yateem, Assistant Undersecretary of Rersources and Budget Sector at MoF, Azza Al Suwaidi, Director of Revenue Development Department at MoF, Mona Al Mulla, Head of Collection Department at MoF and Ahmed Al Naqbi, Head of Strategic Business Ventures and Innovation at NBAD.

According to the agreement, customers of the Ajman Chamber of Commerce and Industry can utilise different G2 e-Dirham applications for feasible fee payments. The G2 e-Dirham system provides secure payment methods through POS devices, e-collection and the internet channels.

Commenting on the agreement, HE Al Khouri stressed on the Ministry’s efforts to improve all its programmes and systems in the field of government financial services, in line with the ‘smart government’ initiative. HE reiterated the need to sign more agreements regarding the adoption of the G2 e-Dirham system with federal agencies and non -governmental organisations on both local and federal levels to increase transparency in the management of financial resources and achieve sustainable and balanced development in the UAE.

HE added: “MoF continues to improve and develop its G2 e-Dirham system by launching more advanced electronic applications specialised in the collection of fees for government services and applying the best international practices in this field.”

For his part, HE Al Suwaidi stated that the signing of the agreement reflects Ajman Chamber’s commitment to move towards the ‘smart government’ initiative launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai. HE also explained that Ajman’s Chamber had a vision in its strategic plan to shift to an electronic system, where it previously introduced one pertaining to all the Chamber’s news, inquiries and services in 2010.

“The agreement -which enables the Chamber to collect fees electronically- presents a significant advancement in the quality of the Chamber’s services in a manner that saves customers and employees time and effort and in turn confirms the Chamber’s willingness to establish an attractive investment environment to further improve Ajman’s economy, following the directives of HH Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman and HH Sheik Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman,” explained HE Salem Al Suwaidi.

Al Shehhi added: “This agreement with the Ajman Chamber of Commerce allows for an expansion in the scope of services offered by the G2 e-Dirham system and represents a major shift in e-payment methods and NBAD’s commitment to further strengthen its e-services especially in a time where the business industry heavily relies on them.”

He emphasised: “The progress of e-payment services falls in the context of the UAE’s progress to enhance offerings provided to individuals and businesses as well as to improve the business environment, which in turn sets the UAE at the forefront of the emerging and top economies at a global level.”

MoF is currently working on providing additional methods of payments for its G2 e-Dirham system via mobile phones, electronic kiosks, virtual electronic wallets and a feature for transferring and directing debit from bank accounts.
