Al Ain Traffic: 55 Driving Licenses Revoked Last Month
(12 September 2013)

According to the Al Ain Traffic and Patrols Section at the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate, a total of 55 driving licenses were revoked in Al Ain last August of drivers who violated the traffic regulations. Two other licenses were canceled.

Major Salah Abdullah Al Hemairi, Acting Head of Al Ain Traffic Section indicated that holders of the revoked driving licenses had exceeded the cumulative number of 24 traffic black point demerit. Moreover, he explained: “The cumulative allowed 24 traffic points limit is reached as a resukt of committing serious violations such as: truck drivers recklessly overtaking other vehicles (resulting in 24 points), driving dangerously or racing on the road (resulting in 12 points), and other traffic related offences”.

Al Hemairi added: “Revoking driving licenses aims at preventing reckless offenders from posing a risk to themselves and other road users for a short period of time. For a first offence, a license is withdrawn for a period of three months, six months in the second instance, then for a year and then it may be revoked permanently if the driver commits a fourth offence. If he continues to drive with a cancelled license, he shall be punished and transferred to the concerned authority for investigation, then to the General Prosecution to render the appropriate sentence.”

Concluding, Major Salah Abdullah Al Hemairi urged motorist to abide by traffic laws, particularly the legal speed limits on the roads. He emphasized that non-adherence to the speed limits on roads is one of the major causes of traffic offenses; wishing safety to all.
