The basketball superstar and 5 time champion Kobe Bryant will host a basketball skills clinic for 40 lucky students at GEMS American Academy in Abu Dhabi later this month.
Bryant will coach a specially selected group of students from basketball teams at GEMS schools across the United Arab Emirates and from the wider community, giving a legion of younger fans the opportunity to interact with and be inspired by the fifteen-time all-star. Bryant will be joined by players from the Real Madrid basketball
“Legends” team, giving students access to quality training from some of the best in the field.
The clinic will take place on September 26as a part of the Kobe Bryant Health and Fitness Weekend, which aims to raise awareness of diabetes, the country’s top public health challenge. The event is held under the Patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Social Development, and Chairman of the General Authority for Youth and Sports Welfare.
“We are really excited to be hosting this event at GEMS American Academy,” said Jay Varkey, Senior Director at GEMS Education. “This will be a fantastic opportunity for some of our students and other members of the UAE community to learn from one of the world’s best basketball players. Engaging with the youth is a very effective way to spread awareness about diabetes and the importance of a healthy lifestyle.”
The clinic at GEMS American Academy, Abu Dhabi will be streamed live to GEMS World Academy in Dubai, extending the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of learning from Bryant to as many students as possible. Real Madrid players will also be present at GEMS World Academy to guide the basketball enthusiasts from GEMS schools and from the rest of the country.
