Belevari Marine, one of Abu Dhabi’s leading cruise tour operators, has appointed two female captains to become the region’s only company to offer fully-certified ‘ladies only’ cruises.
The move comes in response to growing demand for cruise products that cater to the female-only market and is expected to generate strong uptake from Arabian Gulf customers.
Captain Amanda Hyden, an American, and Captain Cathy Alvarado who is German, have more than 100 sailing hours each and both hold Royal Yacht Association Powerboat 2 Licences. They are leading the cruises onboard Belevari Marine’s flagship 74-foot catamaran – the largest of its kind in Abu Dhabi.
“Sea cruises with an all ladies’ crew and female captain allows guests to experience the natural beauty of the Arabian Gulf in a comfortable, qualified and safe environment, where they can have fun whilst also retaining their modesty and cultural values,” said Captain Hyden.
“Schedules and timings for ladies’ cruises are kept confidential and will only be dealt with by the two female captains,” said Captain Cathy.
To support the emirate’s burgeoning watersports sector, Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) recently unveiled a dedicated watersports resource in eight languages on its award-winning www.visitabudhabi.ae website in advance of the UAE capital’s hosting of the third 2014-15 Volvo Ocean Race stopover from mid-December 2014 until 3rd January 2015.
TCA Abu Dhabi, which is behind the emirate’s race campaign as well as the stopover, is encouraging the expansion of the emirate’s marine proposition ahead of next year’s hosting and is pushing forward a package-strong and tourism-driven event, including a fan-friendly Destination Village on the stunning Abu Dhabi Corniche breakwater, as well as a compelling entertainment programme to leverage the seasonal holiday dates.
