Caparol Wins Prestigious Bawabat Al Sharq Project On Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island
(4 September 2013)

Caparol, Germany’s number one and Europe’s third largest paint and insulation manufacturer, has won the contract to provideinterior and exterior paints for the prestigious Bawabat Al Sharq project in Abu Dhabi.

The development, on Yas Island, is a Baniyas Investment & Development Company project valued at AED 3 Billion.Bawabat Al Sharq extends across 108 hectares of land and is the first luxury mixed-use development of its kind in one of Abu Dhabi’s prime suburban areas – Bani Yas.
Speaking about the contract wins, Gary Seabrook, General Manager of Caparol in the Middle East said, “At Bawabat Al Sharq we will be supplying Capastructure and Decolasur as external wall coatings, along with CapaMatt for interiors for 192 villas. The project is aimed for completion in October. We are extremely pleased to be working with the Baniyas Investment & Development Company.”
DecoLasur is a versatile glazing compound which is ideal for traditional paint effects such as colour washing, ragging and dragging, it can also be used on textured surfaces for a distinctive, rustic character.Capastructure is used to create a rustic, decorative country style finish. Expressive and individual designs can be achieved by top-coating with Decolasur to give a dual colour or a heritage finish. Capastructure can be trowel applied to produce the characteristic rustic patterns or spray applied to give a more even finish.
Bawabat Al Sharq includes residential, commercial, retail and entertainment offerings in addition educational facilities, a medical centre, a health club and sporting, community and recreational areas. The development also boasts a fully-fledged mall, including 339 high-end retail outlets covering 70,000 square meters.
Caparol’s Bawabat Al Sharq project win comes in the wake of the company winning another housing project in Abu Dhabi comprised of 92 villas.
Seabrook says, “We are working in conjunction with our partners Commodore Contracting LLC on this Al Ain based project. Caparol’s thermal insulation(ETICS) will be used throughout, along with StructurePutz, a synthetic aggregate filled resin plaster, for exteriors. The project is due for completion at the end of 2013”.
According to Seabrook the UAE’s thermal insulation market is growing at a rate of 20% per year, thanks to the government’s mandatory building efficiency codes and new green testing and certification process.

Caparol is currently among the UAE’s leading ETICS (External Thermal Insulation Composite Systems) suppliers.
UAE regulators have recognized that saving energy makes a significant contribution to protection of the environment. Good thermal insulation is a cost effective and easy way to save energy by ensuring heat is sealed out.

“Proper use of ETICS can save 30 -35% of building power consumption. The market is growing, but there is still a lot of work to be done in terms of educating industry about how to achieve proper insulation, “adds Seabrook.
