National Committee To Combat Human Trafficking Organizes Workshop On E-learning Programs To Combat Forced Labor

The National Committee to combat human trafficking, in collaboration with International Labor Organization (ILO), recently organized a workshop under title “The ILO Special Action Programme combating Forced labor (SAP-FL)” as part of efforts of the UAE against human trafficking and forced labor, beside enhancing workers capabilities inidentifying all types of crimes related to human trafficking

"The cooperation between the committee and ILO builds on the ongoing efforts undertaken by theCommittee to improvethe skills of staff members who are dealing with the different types of human trafficking crimes, including that of forced labor and labor exploitation,” said His Excellency Dr. Saeed Mohammad Al Ghafli, Assistant Undersecretary for Federal National Council Affairs in the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs,and member and coordinator of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking.

“The National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking is working to leverage allmeasuresto eliminate these crimes,” H.E Al Ghaflisaid, addingthat the Committee will work with the relevant entities in the UAE to focus more on crimesrelating to labor exploitation and forced labor, and to uphold the rights of workers in the UAE.
Mr. HoutanHomaenpour, Senior Programme and Operation Officer for Promotion of the Declaration of Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work in ILO, said that human trafficking and forced labor are big problemsfacing all countries in the world. The UAE has managed to achieve significant achievements in fighting these crimes through international cooperation and positively dealing with cases of trafficking victims, in addition to its commitment to promote the training and skills ofthe staff members.

The workshop, led by HE Dr. Saeed Mohammed Al Ghafli, HoutanHomaynpour, and Amanda Eckman Legal Officer in the ILO, was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of labor, Ministry of Social Affairs, Ministry of Health, Naturalization and Residency Department, Dubai Police, federal and local prosecutors, "Ewa’a” centers, the Dubai Foundation for women and Children, and the Emirates Association for human Rights.

The workshop highlighted 11 indicators of forced labor accredited byInternational labor Organization, which help the concerned entities to identify the cases that lead toexploitation limit, and subject to theFederal law“51”.
The workshop focused on the new strategy of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking, which is based on the ‘Five Ps’ of prevention, prosecution, punishment, protection and promotion (of international co-operation), which are being applied in the UAE in line with the international best practices in this field.
