Abu Dhabi City Municipality has launched a tender for the private sector to take part in the transformation of the Corniche, with the launch of the W10 F&B Plaza project that will be located on the beachfront in block west 10, between two major thoroughfares – Al Khaleej Al Arabi and Sultan bin Zayed.
With over one million people visiting the beach each year, the W10 F&B Plaza will enhance the visitor experience by adding underground parking space for 800 vehicles and above-ground space will be for distinctive high-end retail, food and beverage outlets. A pedestrian underpass will provide access to the beach. The W10 F&B Plaza will cater to pedestrians with a streetscape emphasis that maintains the existing 10,500 sqm of green space.
Private sector investors will have the opportunity to develop and operate the new W10 F&B Plaza using a build-operate-transfer (BOT) arrangement The new Plaza will play an important role in the continued improvement of one of the city’s most popular visitor attractions and forms part of the Government’s Corniche Area Vision.
“Our aim is to increase the range and quality of public facilities as part of the government’s long term program to provide clusters of services and leisure activities along the prestigious Corniche beachfront – a location of major significance within Abu Dhabi”, said Rashid Bin Ali Al Omaira, Investment and Asset Adviser for the General Manager’s Office at Abu Dhabi City Municipality.
“By reinforcing the Corniche as one of the defining landmarks of the city, visited by over one million people each year, the W10 F&B Plaza development provides an exciting opportunity for the private sector to play a vital part in infrastructure improvements that support the Abu Dhabi 2030 vision, ,” he added.
Abu Dhabi City Municipality has developed a comprehensive planning strategy to identify the economic and social benefits of the development that will cover an area of over 16,000 sqm.
