A class of 60 Emirati students enrolled in Abu Dhabi’s annual Tourism Youth Summer Camp series – a programmeorganised by Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Dhabi) in conjunction with the European International College (EIC) – have taken part in a day-long fact-finding visit to Yas Island, the emirate’s prime leisure entertainment destination.
The students, a mix of boys and girlsall aged between 15 and 17, were on the edge of their seats during an introductory workshop detailing the island’s multi-faceted offerings, before they climbed aboard buses for a whistle-stop tour of Yas Island’s major tourist attractions, including Yas Beach, Yas Marina, Yas Viceroy, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, YasWaterworld and Yas Links.
“It’s very important that thestudents understand the culture that has been created on Yas Island and the mechanisms we have introduced to position the island as Abu Dhabi’s leisure entertainment destination. It is vital that the next generation of Abu Dhabi tourism ambassadors understand how we are leveraging the emirate’s past in the developments driving its tourism future,” said workshop chairperson Karim El Guanaini, Vice President of Destination Management, Yas Island.
“The students had not expected to encounter Arabian influences built into many of the island’s attractions and they found it easy to relate to and embrace theseintrinsically Emirati aspects – specifically the tent-inspired grandstands of Yas Marina Circuit and the heritage-driven, pearl diving theme of YasWaterworld.”
Over the next three weeks, the Tourism Youth Summer Camp studentswill take part in various workshops designed to boost their awareness of the emirate’s tourism industry and its economic, social and environmental impacts; embark on field trips to better acquaint them with Abu Dhabi’s expanding tourism offering and participate in team building exercises to develop their interpersonal skills.
With various stakeholders contributing prizes for high performers, the students will embark onfact-finding field trips of Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, the Zayed Centre, Abu Dhabi Pearl Journey, The St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort and the Manarat Al Saadiyat exhibition centre.
