Last night’s Master Class at The Circle Conference was given by writer-director Spike Lee at the Shangri-La Abu Dhabi. He talked about his background in making films (eg Malcolm X, Inside Man, Miracle at Santa Anna) and how regional filmmakers in the Middle East needed to create their own opportunities for relating their own local stories, rather than try to hang on the coat tails of Hollywood.
Today – Wednesday – there is to be a Master Class given by Antonio Banderas, who will also be presenting the $100,000 award to the winner of the Shasha Grant screenwriting contest.
And tomorrow, Thursday, will be the start of the Interactive Media Conference which opens at Marina Mall, Abu Dhabi and which will feature a number of exhibits around the Mall which will be available for the general public to try out, together with an open air audio-visual experience taking place on Abu Dhabi’s Corniche at 8pm – 10pm.
