Bawadi Mall, the largest mall in Al Ain city, has displayed the renowned Alhambra Castle, a new theme highlighting the Andalusian era throughout Ramadan month. Alongside, the mall has run three daily Andalusian performance shows from 20th July until 3rd August 2013.
The Alhambra Castle forms part of an overall Andalusian theme aimed at defining the unique architecture of an era when Arabs dominated Spain for 8 centuries from the year 711 – 1492.
Khalid Shraim, Senior Marketing Manager, Bawadi Mall said: “We have seen increased footfall through a series of themes organized by our internal marketing team. These infotainment campaigns attract not only art and culture lovers but also multinationals who are eager to get acquainted with civilizations that are still admired today. We noticed strong interest from mall visitors in the previous Pharaonic theme and this motivated us to develop the Andaluous project.”
The thematic decor aimed at educating mall visitors about the Andalusian Islamic civilization which is one of the most prominent civilizations in history.
The architecture designs included the famous Alhambra Castle and The Patio of the Lions which is the most famous place of the Alhambra. The rectangular gallery is supported by 124 white marble columns with fine shafts, which are decorated on the exterior with many rings, which support cubic capitals and big abacuses, decorated with inscriptions and stylized vegetal forms.
“There are many other creative ideas lined up for the coming period. We understand the importance of continuing this strategy, as it gives satisfaction to both visitors and tenants,” Shraim added.
He said: “This is part of the overall experience at Bawadi Mall that combines entertainment and shopping as well as educational spotlight on civilizations that will contribute in making visitors eager to know more about it.”
Al-Andalus was a medieval Muslim state in parts of what are today Granada in Spain constructed by the king Badis ibn Hubus during the first half of the 10th century. The beginning of the construction was in the 4th century on the Islamic calendar which synchronised with the 3rd century; other parts may have been built in the 7th century according to the Islamic calendar. In the Middle, The Patio of the Lions centered by a big dodecagon-shaped basin rests on top of these 12 lions that are around it.
