Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) has added two new social media initiatives to its VisitAbuDhabi.ae online destination resource. A new Instagram account (instagram.com/visitabudhabi) invites the emirate’s visitors and residents to share their best Abu Dhabi photos, while a Facebook ‘Discover Abu Dhabi’ App (facebook.com/visitabudhabi) gives users in-depth content on the destination’s happenings.
The Visit Abu Dhabi Instagram account is the destination’s first official digital channel with 100% user-generated content. Visitors and residents can capture the best of Abu Dhabi on their mobile devices and share them with the world using the hashtag #snapabudhabi. Those using the account in the next three months are entered into a competition for the chance to win an adrenaline-filled Abu Dhabi F1 experience for two – including 2013 FORMULA 1 ETIHAD AIRWAYS ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX tickets, return business class tickets to Abu Dhabi with award-winning Etihad Airways, a three nights, Eastern Mangroves Hotel & Spa by Anantara stay and ‘Yas Park Pass’ access to Ferrari World Abu Dhabi and Yas Waterworld.
The ‘Discover Abu Dhabi’ App gives Facebook followers expanded, blog-style content, in English and Arabic, on the destination’s top events and initiatives, as well as an additional digital platform to aggregate Twitter and multimedia content on specific topics. Launched with three components – SummerFest Abu Dhabi, Golf in Abu Dhabi and F1 in Abu Dhabi – the app will be expanded to reflect further compelling happenings – including Gourmet Abu Dhabi and National Day celebrations.
The App categorises users based on their specific preferences and posts they read, directing targeted messages so they can receive relevant information on the emirate’s future events and initiatives.
The two new social media platforms come as the Visit Abu Dhabi page reaches a quarter of a million Facebook fans this month – a 170% increase compared to January 2013 - and 60,000 Twitter followers – a 90% increase over the past six months.
Conceived with travellers’ needs in mind, VisitAbuDhabi.ae is a one-stop-shop for tourists wanting to explore the emirate, giving them easy access to interact, in any of eight languages (Arabic, English, French, German, Italian, Russian, Japanese and Chinese) with extensive, dynamic information on Abu Dhabi’s attractions and experiences, culture and heritage, events and recreation activities. Visit Abu Dhabi’s multilingual hotel, flight and car search, aggregating live deals and availability from booking engines, is complimented by a trip planner facility, allowing travellers to build and share their virtual trips to Abu Dhabi. The destination’s social media channels invite travellers to become active contributors to the destination, to post, comment, get inspired and share their experience. Reaching over three million visits a year, with a daily average of over 10,000 clicks, further planned visitor experience enhancements include mobile applications on all key platforms - iPhone, iPad, Android and Windows Phone – and the addition of a new website language – Brazilian-Portuguese.
