The Abu Dhabi General Services Company (Musanada) organised in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Blood Bank (ADBB), a blood donation campaign. The campaign is intended to coincide with World Blood Donor Day, and should be seen within the framework of social responsibility, to which Musanada attaches great importance.
The campaign aims to instil a culture of voluntary donation in the local community by raising awareness and educating community members on the importance of blood donation and its role. Blood donation is critical in saving the lives of many sick and injured people, as well as in meeting the needs of patients through permanent blood donation.
Musanada’s staff, both male and female, flocked to the location where donation was designated in order to carry out the necessary tests and donate blood. The campaign has embodied the great keenness of Musanada’s staff to take part in volunteer work. It has been especially gratifying for Musanada employees to be involved in an initiative that aims to serve patients and provide assistance to the needy who are suffering from lack of blood, and to emphasise that blood donation is a national duty.
Mr. Trais Al-Ketbi, Acting Executive Director of Internal Support at Musanada, said: “Musanada is committed to supporting such humanitarian initiatives, and the great and important role of blood donation that contributes to saving the lives of many people. This initiative will be of value to many people in the local community, especially children with thalassaemia and those who need transfusions of blood on an ongoing basis. Furthermore, those injured in traffic accidents, burns, patients with heart surgery, leukaemia patients and other cancers, and other diseases which require access to units of blood in order to treat, will also benefit.”
He continued: “Blood donation is a humane duty that reflects the concept of unity and integration among community members. Organisations and government bodies have a fundamental role to contribute to community activities and events. This leads to the establishment of close relations between different groups within the community, the development of patriotism and loyalty, and the promotion of the culture of giving and donating among members of the same community.”
Al-Ketbi added that there are many health benefits that also ensue from the process of donating blood. These include ridding the body of excess iron, reducing the incidence of heart attacks, helping in the fight against genetic diseases, and helping to stimulate blood circulation through the new blood cells that are produced, along with many other benefits.
The ADBB’s Management commended the turnout and great response of Musanada’s staff to donate blood, which gave indication of the extent of their awareness of the importance of this humanitarian work.
