(12 June 2013)
Three-year Partnership with IMD in line with Al Ain Zoo’s strategy to develop top Emirati talent

As part of its on-going commitment to foster and cultivate Emirati talent, Al Ain Zoo recently welcomed back the first three batches of UAE Nationals who completed management development training at the prestigious IMD business school in Switzerland.

Recognised as a world pioneer in executive education, IMD is ranked among the world’s top schools by the Financial Times, Business Week and Forbes, among others. Al Ain Zoo has partnered with the first-class academic institution as part of its on-going commitment to Emiratisation, in line with Abu Dhabi Vision 2030. The partnership agreement between the two entities, which was signed last month, comes as the zoo gears up to send its fourth batch of UAE Nationals for training at IMD.

Commenting on the partnership, Ghanim Al Hajeri, Director General of Al Ain Zoo, said:

“The development with UAE Nationals is among the most vital tactics to ensure Al Ain Zoo expansion to an arid wildlife leader enjoys continued success and sustainability in its leadership and management. As a public institution in the UAE in a truly unique industry, a tailor-made training and development programme with the well-reputed IMD institution is an ideal way to further our commitment to Emiratisation.”

Mariam Al Shamsi, Director of Human Resources and Strategy at Al Ain Zoo, added:

“Al Ain Zoo’s dedicated efforts to enhance the skills of UAE nationals provide them with the necessary tools to take over the future leadership role following the expansion of the institution, it is imperative we work towards the development of the young leaders now to excel as leaders in the distinct industry of wildlife tourism and conservation in the close future. This initiative is in line with our expected contribution to Abu Dhabi Vision 2030 in placing Abu Dhabi as leader in arid wildlife management and conservation internationally, and enhancing Al Ain Zoo’s position as a wildlife destination and leader in conservation, and cementing the UAE’s role in these capacities in the international arena.”

The training programme’s activities include IMD’s Program for Executive Development (PED), High Performance Leadership (HPL), Advanced Strategic Management (ASM), and Building on Talent (BOT), focusing on nurturing the strong pool of talented UAE nationals among middle and senior management. The initiative follows the zoo’s recent announcement that UAE National workforce now makes up 33% of the organisation’s employees, and working across all departments.

Areas of cooperation as part of the three-year agreement will extend to executive development courses offered by IMD in Lausanne, Switzerland; Santa Cruz, California, USA; Sao Paolo, Brazil; and Hong Kong, China. In addition to the agreement with IMD, the zoo also looks forward to signing MOUs with local institutions towards the end of summer, including the Al Ain Department of Economic Development and Municipality of Al Ain to facilitate further training programmes.
