Tawam Lab’s Hafsa Shebli Is The First Female In UAE And GCC Certified By American Society Of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP)
(5 June 2013)
Hafsa Shebli granted certification by American Society of Clinical Pathologists, the gold standard in clinical laboratory certification

Tawam Hospital in affiliation with Johns Hopkins Medicine, announces that one of its staff, Ms. Hafsa Shebli, has become the first female in UAE and GCC certified by American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP). She is globally qualified to undertake the clinical examination of pap smears and other cultures to identify cellular abnormalities and detect changes in body cells that can help in the early diagnosis of cancer.

UAE national Hafsa Shebli is a qualified Bachelor of Science degree holder in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the UAE University. She joined the Anatomic Pathology Section of the Tawam Laboratory Department in 2005 and after working for six years there decided to pursue higher studies in Cytology in Melbourne, Australia. She returned to the UAE after completing her course mastery of new skills and techniques.

Humaid Al Mansouri, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Tawam Hospital said: “Hafsa shines as an example of our efforts towards developing UAE national talent. Her enthusiasm, ability to learn quickly and eagerness to acquire new skills were noticed by supervisors who encouraged her to push for further studies. Her hard work and dedication then took over and she achieved this milestone despite being a wife and mother of two young children. We are proud to have her as a colleague. She is an inspiration to our staff and more are expected to follow her example.”

Tawam Labs boasts the highest number of UAE nationals working in the SEHA (Abu Dhabi Health Services) network in the UAE. It has adopted a policy of actively recruiting and engaging a majority UAE national workforce. “We look for talent among UAE nationals before we venture to hire from outside as we believe that they are committed to learning and development and to making a positive contribution to our operations and practice,” concluded Humaid Al Mansouri.

Tawam Hospital is part of the SEHA Health System and is owned and operated by SEHA, which is responsible for the curative activities of all the public hospitals and clinics in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
