Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi is inviting individuals in the UAE to take the plunge and sign up for a free swimming lesson on June 18th - part of a global bid by community water-parks and aquatic facilities across the world to break the current Guinness World Record for the "World’s Largest Swimming Lesson".
Yas Waterworld is looking to break the record for the most-attended event hosted at a single venue. The global event, which attracted 24,873 participants last year, also wants to smash its own record while simultaneously spreading the message that "Swimming Lessons Save Lives".
According to a recent study in the US, drowning is currently the second leading cause of unintended, injury-related death for children ages 1-14, an incident rate that can be brought down drastically through teaching children to swim early in life.
"As a water-park and a family attraction located in a country with a sizeable shoreline, the importance of knowing how to swim and having the ability to enjoy water-based activities is very relevant to us here in the UAE," said Mike Oswald, Park Manager. "This seemed like a great way to get involved in a global drive to spread the message of the life-saving value of learning to swim".
