(22 May 2013)

Emirates Post has issued a stamp to recognize the UAE’s progressive achievement in the field of science and technology by commemorating Yahsat’s first multipurpose satellite Y1A.

The satellite, a milestone for the nation, is designed to provide advanced satellite services to Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Central and South West Asia. The stamp is available in denomination of AED 4, along with a First Day Cover of AED 5.

“The launch of Y1A in April 2011 ranks as one of the greatest scientific achievements of the UAE, helping our nation take its place among the leading satellite providers in the region. In addition, the launch saw the UAE forging strong partnerships with the international community, bridging the gap between East and West,” said Mr. Ibrahim Bin Karam, Chief Commercial Officer, Emirates Post Group. “These stamps seek to preserve for posterity this unique feat, showcasing just how much can be achieved by the UAE and Yahsat with determination and passion.”

Y1A is the region’s first multipurpose communications satellite to offer Ka-band technology satellite solutions to government and commercial entities. It is the first of two satellites to have been launched by Yahsat, a private joint stock company fully owned by Mubadala, the investment arm of the Government of Abu Dhabi over the past two years.

“We are delighted that Emirates Post has chosen to document the UAE’s first multi-purpose satellite, Y1A which offers Ka-band technology, the first of its kind in the region. The commemorative representation of Y1A on UAE stamps highlights the nation’s progressive achievement in the field of science and technology, a key pillar of Abu Dhabi’s 2030 vision,” stated Jassem Mohamed Al Zaabi, Yahsat Chairman.
