A business trip to the United Arab Emirates paid surprise dividends for 27-year-old Surrey resident Nathan Ridgwell.
Nathan, who works for London-based catererglobal.com, was in Dubai for the Arabian Travel Market tourism fair when he climbed into the seat of an F1 simulator to take part in a speed challenge launched by Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) and the Grand Prix hosts Yas Marina Circuit.
Over 500 would-be F1 drivers took up the challenge to negotiate the simulator’s track in the fastest time possible. Nathan, who has visited Grand Prix in Silverstone and Belgium before – left his co-contestants behind by burning up the circuit in an astonishing 1 minute, 32 seconds – and took home his prize of two tickets to this November’s F1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
“The first thing I did when I was took I had won was ring my mother to tell her that all that time I spent on a Play Station when growing up had finally paid off,” said Account Manager Nathan.
Nathan, who’s due to be married next February is now booking air tickets and hotels for him and his fiancé to attend the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix which runs at the state-of-the-art Yas Marina Circuit from November 1-3.
“This will be a great weekend and we are particularly looking forward to the after-race concerts, particularly the final night event with Depeche Mode. I suspect we will stay on for a few days after the race to see more of Abu Dhabi,” said Nathan.
