The General Directorate Of Customs- Abu Dhabi Launches The New Uniform For Its Employees

The Event was attended by H.E. Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, and members of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council

 

The Department of Finance - Abu Dhabi hosted an event today to officially launch the new uniforms for employees of the General Directorate of Customs at the Emirates Palace, Abu Dhabi in the presence of HE Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority for Culture and Heritage and Member of the Executive Council, HE Hamad Al Hurr Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the Department of Finance and members from the Executive Council. The event was also attended by strategic stakeholders of the Directorate of Customs.

The event encompassed a range of different programmes and activities which highlighted the important role that the Directorate of Customs plays in supporting the economic standing of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and of the UAE, and in protecting the local community against external dangers associated with foreign trade.

In his opening speech, HE Saeed Ahmed Abdullah Al Muhairi, Director General of the General Directorate of Customs said: “We are launching our new Customs’ uniform today to encourage a spirit of innovation and creativity in the Directorate of Customs, and to ensure that we are following the best adopted global standards in the field. This follows the directives of our wise leadership and the guidance of HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and HH General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council. We are also grateful for the continuous support that we receive from HH Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Advisor, and Vice Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Council.”

HE added: “The General Directorate of Customs, throughout the years, has been able to develop a comprehensive and sustainable strategy for customs work in the Emirate. We are always keen to adopt the latest standards and practices required to ensure efficiency of our operations in all sea, air and land borders. We play a critical role in promoting trade activities and in supporting Abu Dhabi’s economic cycle and the UAE’s economy at large.”

HE concluded: “We hope that the new uniform will have a number of positive effects, where it will enhance a sense of organsational belonging amongst the team, and that it also serves as a factor that enhances the performance of customs operation in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. This uniform will serve as a reminder to highlight importance of promoting a culture of innovation and creativity.”

From his part, Ali Abdullah Al Kuwaiti, Head of new uniform initiative, indicated that the decision by the General Directorate of Customs to launch the new uniforms falls within its strategy, which encourages positive change according to best practices and the highest adopted standards while preserving the national heritage. He said: “In line with the commitment to adopt the highest global standards in the field of customs, we formed specialised team to examine and develop a new uniform to ensure that they reflect the professionalism of the employees, since they are the first persons that visitors to the country see once they arrive at the Emirate’s different borders. It was also important that the uniforms reflected our values and heritage in addition to the atmosphere of tolerance and openness which the modern UAE is witnessing. The team also ensured that the uniforms meet all the requirements needed to enable employees to carry out their tasks efficiently in different work environments and climatic conditions.

The uniform consists of four different categories: Supervisory attire which is to be worn by Heads of Departments, Divisions and their deputies; Airport and Post attire which is to be worn by employees working in those fields, Field attire for employees that work in land and sea posts and cargo villages, in addition to a unified attire for female employees, which reflect the UAE’s values and culture.

At the conclusion of the event, HE Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan honored the project team that was behind developing the new uniforms and praised their contributions in achieving the goals of DoF.

The General Directorate of Customs was supported by a specialised customs logistics team in developing the new uniforms, to ensure that they were in line with international best practices to fulfill the project’s objectives. All parties worked together hand in hand to ensure that the uniforms met all the requirements needed to enable employees to carry out their tasks efficiently in different work environments and climatic conditions.
