Beginning on 1 May until 30 September, Al Ain Zoo will change its operating hours to summer timings, allowing visitors to enjoy the cooler evening hours at the zoo. The ‘Night Zoo,’ which welcomes guests from 4pm to 10pm daily, coincides with the launch of Reptile Month in May to celebrate Al Ain Zoo’s diverse reptiles with an exciting array of activities.
Themed ‘Life in Cold Blood’, Reptile Month pays tribute to Al Ain Zoo’s exceptional collection of reptiles – one of the largest in the region. The zoo’s Reptile House is home to over 520 specimens, 32 different species and 27 different habitat displays featuring crocodiles, lizards, snakes and turtles.
This remarkable and unique variety of species will be showcased throughout the month of May (1 May to 1 June) at the Reptile House, with regular activities including zoo keeper talks, a ‘Reptile of the Week’ spotlight on the Burmese Python, Green Anaconda, Reticulated Python and Sand Boa respectively, in addition to interactive discussions. Reptile Month will also offer visitors a chance to witness crocodile feeding every Thursday at 5pm, and snake feeding every Thursday at 9pm, and 6pm and 8pm on weekends.
Muna Al Dhaheri, Acting Chief Conservation and Education at Al Ain Zoo, said:
“Reptiles include a number of incredible species: crocodiles date back to pre-historic times and snakes have an established place in many ancient cultures. The switch to the Night Zoo for the summer is an ideal time to launch ‘Reptile Month: Life in Cold Blood,’ as many reptiles are nocturnal and more active in the evenings, and we are confident visitors will enjoy learning about these unique species. We also look forward to welcoming visitors to the Night Zoo for the remainder of the summer, as they will have the opportunity to experience first-hand how animal behaviour differs at night.”
Al Ain Zoo will also soon announce the launch of Family Movie Nights, which are set to entertain families throughout month of June. In addition to themed months and exciting animal exhibits, Al Ain Zoo further offers visitors a variety of entertainment and education activities including regular bird and parrot shows, giraffe and budgie feeding, the Elezba petting zoo, guided tours, and more.
Night Zoo operating hours welcome visitors from 4pm to 10pm daily from 1 May until 30 September 2013. During Ramadan, the zoo will open daily from 6pm to 12 midnight.
