Ambulatory Healthcare Services (AHS), a part of the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), will host a series of workshops on healthy living for children between the ages of six and 12 as part of its participation at the 23rd Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (ADIBF), one of the fastest growing publishing events in the region.
ADIBF is organised under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. The 2013 edition will be held from 24 - 29 April at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Centre (ADNEC).
In addition to demonstrating the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle, the AHS-led workshops will include fun and interactive sessions under the title “Meet your friend the dentist”. As part of the initiative, dental practitioners will seek to educate children on the tools used during a routine dental check-up and the appropriate methods of using dental instruments such as the tooth brush and dental floss. More importantly, the sessions will help break the barrier experienced by most children during their visits to dental clinics. The dentists will also provide a complimentary check-up and a certificate confirming the children’s teeth have been checked.
The sessions will additionally include educational activities by nurses that demonstrate the importance and technique of washing hands in order to keep them germ-free. With the use of ultraviolet devices, the nurses will illustrate bacteria present on the children’s hands if not washed well. Furthermore, the nurses will raise awareness on healthy dietary habits and the importance of eating healthy. As part of the activity, children will be asked to colour the food content that a healthy plate must consist of.
Mohamed Hawas Al Sadeed, Acting Chief Executive Officer, AHS, said: “At AHS, we continuously seek to create fun and interactive avenues to connect with children across the UAE and educate them on essential health topics. The Abu Dhabi International Book Fair offers a great opportunity to reach a vast audience and showcase our highly qualified team of health specialists and world-class healthcare services to the public.”
He added: “Our recent participation in the Health and Fitness Fun Day was a success as we attracted more than 4,000 visitors to our stand with our fun and educational workshops. We hope to draw a larger participation at ADIBF with the anticipated 25,000 children set to visit the fair. Through this effort, we hope to raise further awareness on medical issues.”
AHS is a unique outpatient care concept from SEHA that aims to offer easy access to primary and specialist patient care, including comprehensive laboratory and modern diagnostic facilities. The network provides ambulatory care centers, school health services, disease prevention and screening centers, as well as mobile clinic solutions across the emirate of Abu Dhabi.
