Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, opened the first Abu Dhabi International Environment Film Festival (ADIEFF) at the National Theatre, Abu Dhabi Corniche.

The opening ceremony was attended by Mohammed Al Hamadi, member of ADIEFF Board of Trustees, Dr. Iyad Abumoghli, Director and Regional Representative of the United Nations Environment Programme in West Asia, Mohammed Monier, ADIEFF’s Executive Director, Deborah Young, a film critic from the United States of America, and a number of Arab and foreign celebrities.

Al Hamadi said 50 films from 32 countries will be screened in three categories of the competition: feature films, short films and UAE films.

The UNEP is participate in ADIEFF’s event with a special program on documentaries that address risks to environment from all over the world. It will also deliver several seminars on UN environment conservation initiatives.

By participating in AIDEFF’s events, the program aims at encouraging film producers in the Middle East to allocate some of their films for the environmental cause and provoking arguments on the emerging threats to nature with the purpose of coming out with doable solutions. The fifteen films to be presented by UNEP have been produced with high-technology with their stories derived from facts and documented studies. The films address current phenomena like the hazardous effects of chemical material on health.
