Hotel And Tourism Industry Courses See Spiralling Demand As UAE’s Hospitality Market Set To Touch USD 7.5 bn By 2016
(16 April 2013)
Abu Dhabi-based European International College to launch BBA and MBA programmes with concentration in hotel management and tourism during GETEX Spring 2013 in Dubai

European International College (EIC), an Abu Dhabi-based institution that specialises in offering hotel management, tourism and business-related courses, has announced that it will be launching a Bachelors in Business Administration (BBA) program with a concentration in hotel management and tourism, during its participation in GETEX Spring 2013, a leading forum for student recruitment in the Middle East and Asia, from April 17 to 19 in Dubai.

EIC, which will be among the first colleges in the UAE to launch an undergraduate business administration programme with a concentration in hotel management and tourism, revealed that it has noticed a rapidly growing demand for hotel and tourism industry courses in the UAE, a country which is seeing unprecedented growth in its hospitality sector. A recent industry report from Alpen Capital points that revenue from the hotel and hospitality market in the UAE will eventually grow to USD 7.5 billion by 2016, given the steady influx of tourists into the country.

Moreover, according to a new economic research released by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), tourism in the UAE is growing considerably faster than the world GDP growth average. The tourism industry contributed 14 per cent to the UAE economy in 2012, which is significantly above the global trend of nine per cent. Importantly, one in nine of all jobs in the country are resulting from the tourism industry, which beats the global average of one in eleven jobs.

The BBA program that EIC is launching during GETEX will also have concentrations in sales & marketing, human resources management, and banking & finance. Moreover, the college will also be unveiling a MBA program at the event.

Committed to providing lifelong learning, workforce development, and social and cultural enrichment, EIC’s academic program is accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research in the UAE. The college aims to promote innovation and excellence in the UAE’s education sector, and equip its students with the best platform to enhance their leadership and career development opportunities in the fields of business, finance, tourism and hospitality management. In addition to the newly launched BBA and MBA programs, EIC offers a Bachelors Degree in Hospitality (offered in cooperation with Switzerland’s “César Ritz” Colleges); Associate Degree in Business Administration; and a Diploma in Hospitality Management & Tourism. EIC also has a standing partnership with Niagara College, Canada and American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA).

Dr. Abdulla Abduljalil Al Fahim, Chairman and Founder of the European International College, said, “Among the recent trends we are observing in the UAE’s hospitality sector is a greater role being played by Abu Dhabi. The capital is seeing vibrant tourism activity thanks to the government’s increased focus on strengthening tourism-related infrastructure and the opening of several world-class hotels and resorts across the city. This positive development has emphasised the need to have well educated and highly skilled manpower in the local tourism sector to keep pace with new industry standards and changing market demands. Given this backdrop, we believe we are launching our new BBA program at the most appropriate time.”

“Moreover, GETEX Spring 2013 presents the perfect platform for us to introduce new programs as it is one of the biggest events targeting the regional education industry and attracts thousands of students and members from the academic world. This is the sixth year we will be participating at GETEX and we are confident of another highly rewarding outing this time as well,” added Dr. Al Fahim.
