The Abu Dhabi International Sports Exhibition “ADISE 2013”, witnessed during its third consecutive day a large turnout in its participants and visitors who took part in the various exciting outdoor and indoor activities such as bungee jumping, wall climbing slack line, cricket, golf, skateboarding and street ball tournaments.
During its third day, ADISE 2013 organised, three discussion panels covering a variety of sports topics that included the future development of motorsports in the region, football rehabilitation & World Football Academy’s Philosophy as well as ways to increase attendance in sports events and the media’s role in promoting local sports and championships.
ADISE 2013 welcomed HE Major General Obaid Al Hairi Salem Al Ketbi, Deputy General Commander of Abu Dhabi Police, HE Mohammed Al Kamali, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee; HE Micheal H. Corbin, US Ambassador to the UAE; HE Abdul Mohsin Al Dosari, Assistant Secretary General for Sports, the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare along with Fahad Massoud Former UAE National player.
Commenting on the third day of the event, Nada Khamees, Manager of ADISE 2013, stressed on the importance of these discussion panels in increasing awareness and knowledge regarding the benefits of sports and its positive impact on the UAE community, saying: “The participation of many local and international sports experts allows the promotion of Abu Dhabi International Sports Exhibition as an ideal platform to discuss the mechanisms regarding the development of future plans and strategies for the sports sector in the region and around the world.”
The first discussion panel titled What Future for the Motorsports in the Region & Revealing Future Champions witnessed the participation of Prince Abdulaziz Turki Al Faisal, Saudi Falcon Champion; Nada Zeidan, First Female GCC Rally Driver and Archer in Asian Games from Qatar; Steven Umfreville, F1 Motorsport Director at Yas Marina Circuit along with Abdullah Al Thawadi, Champion of the Karting Championship from Bahrain.
Furthermore, this discussion panel moderated by Tewe Pannier, Owner of GTV Motorsport Production, covered the most important opportunities and toughest challenges faced by the sports field while highlighting the prominent role played by the media outlets in sponsoring sports activities. All of the participants stressed on the need to support the local federations in order to encourage the participation of women and the emerging generation in motorsports. In addition, the discussion reviewed the mechanisms needed to host sports events on a global level along with a detailed explanation on the importance of supporting and training local future sports champions.
Commenting on the discussion panel, Prince Abudlaziz Turki Al Faisal, Saudi Falcon Champion, stressed on the need to work hard and gain knowledge in order to succeed and said: “I believe it is of high importance to start supporting the youths’ programmes in the field of motorsports in the region, which in turn will play an important role in achieving the desired level of professionalism and interest in this field. In fact, motorsports in general is still new to the region, thus we are in need of the right infrastructure through the joint cooperation with the media outlets and sponsors in order to increase awareness on this matter.”
The third day also offered a second discussion panel titled Football Rehabilitation & World Football Academy Philosophy by Raymond Verheijen, Football Coach and Football Conditioning Expert and moderated by Khalid Abdulnasser Al Maflahi, Groups Sports Coordinator.
As for the third discussion panel titled Increasing Attendance to Sports Events, Role of Media in Promoting Local Sports and Championships, What Sponsoring Strategies in Order to Invest and Not Spend where Ian Walker, Olympic Medalist and Skipper of Abu Dhabi in the Volvo Ocean Race nominated by TCA Abu Dhabi; Tony Moubarak, General Coordinator of ADISE 2013 presented it while it was moderated by Najib Kaii, Journalist from MTV Lebanon.
Moreover, the third session shed light on the mechanisms to increase investments and return on investments in sports along with a discussion on the possibility to increase revenue from coverage and selling tickets. The discussion also covered the issue in regards to creating new job opportunities and funding in addition to highlighting the important role the media should play in increasing the attendance to sports events. Additionally, it reflected on the importance of local athletes’’ participation in these events to attract more people.
The session also introduced the cooperative relationship between media outlets and sports with a detailed explanation on how each of them affects the other in addition to the media’s impact on the local audience regarding sports trends and its role in increasing the demand for new local sports.
Commenting on its participation during the exhibition, Sheikha Shaikha bint Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan said: “The care and attention to women in the United Arab Emirates has exceeded all perception and expectation, it has become a pioneer in every field, and so able to compete and innovate the skills in a distinguished way and always assume the outposts.”
She added: “What women have achieved at the local and global level will not be, unless it’s strong, a supporter sponsored and takes her hand. Women in the UAE receives a superintendent sponsor from our wise leadership and great interest by HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, mother of the UAE, who never hesitated to support women and encourage in any field to elevate it and bring it for intellectual, urban, spiritual, psychological and physical development. “
It is noteworthy mentioning that today the basketball, streetball tournament kicked off in the outdoor areas of the exhibition in collaboration with the UAE Basketball Federation. The UAE is the first Arab country to receive the approval of the International Basketball Federation to hold this tournament over the last two days of the exhibition.
