The Abu Dhabi International Sports Exhibition, ADISE 2013, witnessed during its second day three discussion panels that discussed various sports and health topics, which include: the mechanisms needed for hosting a sports event in the UAE along with discussions on the optimal health lifestyle and sports related diseases.
The first discussion panel titled World Football Academy Seminar was split into two sessions and was moderated by Khalid Abdulnasser Al Maflahi, Groups Sports Coordinator. On one hand, Raymond Verheijen, Football Coach and Football Conditioning Expert, addressed the physical movement involved in playing football while Damien Rodan, Injury Prevention Fitness Specialist, gave a presentation on football nutrition.
As for the second discussion panel titled Bidding for Major Sports Events in the UAE (World Cup, Olympic Games, World Championships), each of Dr. Omar Abdel Aziz, Member of the Board of Directors of the UAE National Olympic Committee and Vice Chairman of the Strategic Planning Committee; Vincent Gaillard, Director of Sports Accord, an umbrella organisation for Olympic and non-Olympic International Sports Federations and Organisations, participated in the discussion that was moderated by Najib Kaii, Journalists from MTV Lebanon.
This discussion panel shed light on the development of a national strategy for youth Olympic sports and the role it plays in benefiting the region socially and economically, the social and commercial impact of hosting sports events as well as the impact of major sports events on the local community. Furthermore, the panel covered topics involving the development and promotion of a strategy for youth Olympic sports by encouraging the incorporation of exercising in schools and in the UAE community. Moreover, participants discussed the opportunity for hosting and organising the Winter Olympics.
During the discussion panel, Dr. Omar Abdel Aziz stressed on the importance of selecting, encouraging and sponsoring talented athletes in order to build an integrated sports system in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare and the Higher Education Sports Federation, which in turn will help in improving the athletes capacities to showcasing their talents. He also highlighted the importance of participating in international and continental competitions and tournaments, which helps in further strengthening the abilities and expertise of the UAE champions in various fields of sports.
For his part, Vincent Gaillard discussed the 10 key features, which are the most important pillars to succeed in hosting international sporting tournaments. These key features included government support, political stability, financial guarantees, ensure safety during events, high quality infrastructure, governance and transparency, event management expertise, environment protection, social legacy as well as sports development.
Moreover, the third discussion panel titled Movement is Medicine, was presented by Dr. Murat Dalkilinc, Physical Therapy, PhD, UAE Armed Forces, on the importance of movement and exercising for the human body. The third session was moderated by Dr. Umut Tugay, Mugla Unviversity School of Physiotherapy along with Dr Bulent Elbasan, Physical Therapy, PhD, University of Ghazi.
Commenting on the second day of the event, Nada Khamees, Manager of ADISE 2013, said: “ADISE 2013 in its second day includes several discussion panels aiming to increase awareness and knowledge regarding the benefits of sports and its positive impact on the UAE community as well as for its economy. The exhibition has witnessed the participation of major decision makers in the UAE, a great number of sports activities as well as international and local speakers.”

During the first day of ADISE 2013, participants joined three discussion panels: Empowerment of Women Sports in the UAE and the Region presented by Sheikha Shamsa Al Maktoum, Women’s Volleyball Groups Supervisor, Movement for Health, Importance of Exercising to the UAE Citizens, which stressed on the importance of physical sport activities to diabetic patients, and World Football Academy which focused on the youth football training.
